I will, hopefully, have much to write and post about as I will be in Europe for a few weeks starting this Sunday, and then back to Manhattan at the end of July.

But, this is long overdue: I was tagged by dragoncaller to list seven unusual things about me, so here goes --

  1. For a brief period during my childhood, I was ambidextrous. How this came to be, I know not. How this ceased to be, I also know not. Now I am just a regular right-handed person.

  2. Unlike a lot of people I know, espresso doesn't make my heart race. I can happily drink five straight shots of espresso and not experience a single tremor.

  3. I am athletically challenged. Also, I have a very lousy aim. I could stand less than three feet away from a dart board and still miss my mark by an embarrassing six inches or so. And yet, surprisingly (or not surprisingly), my spatial skills are remarkably good in other areas -- namely, when it comes to squirting copious amounts of chocolate syrup (with unerring accuracy!) in my mouth directly from the bottle no matter how great the distance between the bottle and my mouth.

  4. Although I had tons of toys and lots of dolls, I have never actually owned a Barbie.

  5. I love freshly baked bread and creamy-smooth butter. With the exception of okra, I refuse to eat any vegetable that's green.

  6. I get intoxicated easily. Few sips of wine is usually enough to get me all giggly and drunk.

  7. I often have far less confidence in myself/my skills than I should.

1. Which character in a book is a lot like you? How?
This one's easy: Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. Other than the fact that I often feel like I was born in the wrong century (especially true during melodramatic or romantic moments, and yes, the two are and can be mutually exclusive... well, sometimes), I can relate to her compassion, her unrelenting stubbornness, her depth and intelligence, her passion and integrity, and of course, her ambivalent and torrid attraction for Darcy.

2. Which character from a movie you have seen is a lot like you? How?
Not one character but some shades from several characters: Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday (that wide-eyed naïveté, the sense of wonder, the loyalty to her ethics and her compulsive need to do "the right thing" even at the cost of her own feelings, and of course the elegance + Audrey Tatou in Amelié, for the hopeless and eternal romanticism + Belle from Beauty and the Beast for her strength, determination, and undying love for books.

3. If you could wake up tomorrow speaking a foreign language fluently, which would it be?
German! Because one of my closest friends is German and it'd be interesting to finally be able to talk to her in her own language (although she's so beautifully fluent in English that it brings a tear to my eye; tear of pride, that is :-))

4. What part of your home do you like best?
The windows of my bedroom and the gauzy curtains that let in lots of light while still casting lacy shadows. I love sitting by the windows, with a cup of coffee and a good book. Oh, and soft music playing in the background, of course.

5. What about getting older makes you most afraid?
Acquiring cynicism and being jaded due to painful experiences.

6. What games are you the best at playing?
I don't like playing games. Oh, in the literal sense? Scrabble.

7. What is one thing you admire about each of your parents?
Their strong personalities and nurturing/giving nature (although my Mom is no more, but she was one of the strongest people I have ever known). I love my dad's patience, kindness, and generosity.

8. Which would you rather be: handsome/beautiful or incredibly intelligent?
Of course, the latter. What good is beauty without intelligence?! To me a handsome/beautiful person may merit a second look, but if he/she is not intelligent then he/she wouldn't hold my interest for more than a minute or two.

9. What things are essential in creating a romantic evening?
Ambiance, Passion, Chemistry, Mental/Intellectual/Emotional Compatibility (not necessarily in the order listed)

10. If you could be an internationally known expert in any field, which would it be?
Literature or Art ... am I predictable?

11. Would you rather work with your head or your hands?
I'd rather work from the heart.

12. When you go out with friends for an evening, what do you like to do the most?
Depends on the friend in question, but usually it'd involve dinner/pub/movie/shopping/long walks/chatting/some activity we enjoy doing together.

13. What in life make you the most angry?
Oh lord, the list is endless. Dishonesty tops the list, and also emotional manipulation, selfishness, rudeness. Uhh, I am misanthropic and grumpy today... anything and everything makes me angry. I'll just pass this one.

14. Which in life give you the most joy?
Love, Connections, Creativity, Inspiring and Being Inspired, Doing something good for someone else

15. What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Loved me the way I am, unconditionally and despite my faults.

16. If you could change your first name to anything else, what name would you choose?
I have no desire to change either my given name (N.....) or my real-life nickname (Minnie).

17. What is the strangest thing you ever brought home when you were a child?
An old, homeless woman who used to sing songs on the street across my school. She wore lots of bangles in her arms -- glass bangles, shiny and bright -- that tinkled when she waved her arms around singing in her raspy, coarse voice. Rumour was it that she was slightly mentally imbalanced. I held her hand one day and brought her home because I found her utterly fascinating. I'd hoped we could keep her, but no... apparently we couldn't. Oh well.

18. If you could wake up a genius at anything, what would you like that to be?
Mathematics or Neurosurgery.

Where shoes are concerned, I am as girly as they come. One of the latest acquisitions:

With 4" heels that make me tower happily at almost 6'

Oh, and I won't tag anyone but I'd love to see any of you fill out the questionnaire with your answers.
