Ever realise you've been part of something for five years? On the Internet, which therefore makes it ancient?
milliways_bar is five years old. WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE.
Five years ago, I was about to start college, working at Fashion Bug for the summer, incapable of taking a driving test without backing over a cone, helping rescue the kitchen from the house's OCD previous owner, not published but fairly sure I wanted to write for a living eventually, and completely hung up on
discworld_rpg (which I sometimes still miss, but not as sharply as I once did).
And then came The Drunken Idea (that being Milliways, for those just tuning in). I signed up for a lark, and idly wondered if it was all going to fall apart come September, when a good half of the players would be going back to school.
Clearly, it hasn't. XD
So much has changed since then. The oldest character I'm still playing will be in for five years as of February. There were times the game kept me sane - and times it drove me up a wall, I'M LOOKING AT YOU, PLOT WITH ROCKS IN. I've met a lot of people that I would have been too scared to talk to otherwise. And... in conclusion, yes.
I like the fact that it's not a post-apocalyptic/'lolz you can NEVER GO HOME AGAIN' setting. I like the fact that it's panfandom; I've never had a problem with wacky crossovers. I like the fact that the plots are opt-in, and can make room for everyone. I like it because I can put it down for a few days if I have to - not that it ever lasts for very long.
For those of you who've left, there's a
meta!crack Back Room party in progress.
In less sentimental news: What is it about big-ass trucks that makes people feel like they can take up four parking spaces? I don't get it.
