Religion?

I'm sure when someone hears the word religion, every individual will think of something different. In one way or the other, someone will think of it being as something controversial and that's what I feel religion has boiled down to as of late. I'm not saying that religion is causing global warming and mass destruction but I believe that it has turned into things that the creators had never thought about.

For example, religion, when it boils down whether you are Catholic, Muslim, Jew or whatever, is being a good person and I have experience way too many times in my lifetime where this was not the case. I have seen religion split people into groups of debate about who is right and who is wrong. Religion should be a choice someone makes. There should be no wrongs and rights. I don't think some people understand that.

People who go around trying to enforce a certain religion down your throat is one of the biggest things that I have come to hate. Phrases such as, "you need to be saved!" makes people feel that they are wrong if one does not believe the same fate that they do. This is what I believe the epitome of what religion has become. It is splitting people up into groups instead of bringing more peace and unity into the world.

Another huge thing that pisses me off is people who claim to be a follower of a religion but do nothing to support their statements. I believe that if people claim to belong to a certain religion, they should do everything in their power to follow what the religion states you should do. Instead, these people think it's cool to say they're Christian without knowing anything about what the religion stands for or what its beliefs are and make an ass out of themselves. This is a huge reason I am agnostic. Not because I don't think any of the religions are wrong but because I don't believe I am strong enough to follow something with the dedication and perseverance. I would rather have people think that I am a sinner for not following Christianity rather than be someone who claims to follow the religion but do nothing to support that.

As I've talked this over with a couple of my friends, without religion, (this is all just my opinion) I don't believe the world would be any worse or any better than what it is today. The pros and the cons that have come along with religion will eventually cancel each other out.

I guess the point I am trying to make is just no matter what religion you follow, as long as it makes you a better person, shouldn't matter.

Also, you shouldn't say you're belong a particular religion because of your family or friends but because you believe and fully support what that religion stands for. I think this is idea is more and more lost as time goes on. I have met way too many people who claim to be Christians who drink and smoke pot. Not only does this seem fake, but it makes you seem like a fake person in that you claim to be one thing and do otherwise.

I guess it's just late and I'm just babbling on about what's on my mind. I'm probably not even gonna remember writing this when I wake up in the morning but it's something that I've been thinking about for a while now and it's definitely good to get off my chest.

Sorry if none of this makes sense.
