[ Miles Edgeworth is not meant to live in idleness.
[ This isn't to say that the last few months of his life hasn't been enjoyable. On the contrary Miles has not lived in a more relaxing environment since before his father's death, and spending time with Ken (no matter how crazy situations with S.E.E.S. members could get) had been fun and Miles did not mind following the boy from here to there. Miles argued his way into following Ken to Olivine, and when the latter decided to leave that city for Ecruteak on Tuesday, the grey-haired boy was more than willing to accompany him. All of the other people Miles met in Johto (sans Franziska) encouraged him to relax and have fun, act his age and do everything else that came along with it - and those days were fun. Kisa was sweet to talk to, Heather and Kaito made him laugh and Merlin was always getting into some kind of misadventure and even Shelley de Killer, criminal as he may be, was pleasant company. Life was peaceful here.
[ The downside of this peaceful idleness, however, is that Miles isn't meant for this kind of life.
[ Miles Edgeworth had lived his entire life thus far with purpose: before Gregory's death he strived to become a defense lawyer just like his father, and after von Karma took him in he spent every day studying and training to become a prosecutor. It was the presence of a far-off goal, something to aim for and direct his life towards, that had supported Miles' self-confidence and verve. He is a kind of person who needs something to strive for, and to live idly, to wander aimlessly no matter how enjoyable the days are, is demoralizing. Sometimes, when Ken is off training his Pokémon or for whatever reason Miles is left on his own for awhile, this lack of purpose hits hard. Sometimes, Miles just wants to go back so that he would have something to aim for again, that something that Johto, no matter how magical it was, cannot provide for him.
[ Slowly but steadily over the months, Miles Edgeworth has been growing homesick and depressed, and his Pokémon are trying to get him to find something to do. ]
[ The feed opens up today to Miles seated under a tree and looking at the Gear. Oddly enough it's being used properly this time, not another recording by his mischievous Plusle or other Pokémon. Miles has placed the Gear on his bag as a stand and is looking at it - unsurely. Not that this hasn't been his default face for awhile now, but this time he looks almost uncomfortable as he addresses the network. ]
I... I am considering challenging the gym leader in Ecruteak once we reach the city, as my Pokémon have been insistent on this idea for the past few days. [ They've been nagging him nonstop about it since they left Olivine City in an attempt to give their trainer something to do. Almost as proof of this, Remus the Plusle and Tal the Wooper can be seen bouncing behind him with the Trainer Handbook open to a page on the Pokémon League, looking excited -- guys guys convince him for us too! ]
I've never partaken in an official battle before, and going in blindly without any preparation would be foolish. Is there anything I should be particularly aware of before challenging him?
[ And Miles leans forward to click off the feed, but before the connection it cut off he can be heard muttering to his group of Pokémon-- ]
He's a Ghost type user though... are you guys sure you're okay with this?
