- Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 -

Aiba sat stiffly on the large, royal blue lounge chair, twiddling his thumbs and anxiously looking around the piano room, wondering how much he would have to pay if one of his clumsy limbs manages to knock down one of the many china vases and golden busts into really expensive smithereens. The mansion was eerily silent despite welcoming its master back home, and a nervous guest to boot. Once in a while, Aiba would hear Reiko shouting something and the kittens giggling upstairs, the reverberation in the wide halls were impressive. He sighed and questioned his presence in such a luxurious and high-end part of the world, feeling like a fish out of water. Oh, well. I’d better get familiar to these sorts of things if I want to see more of Kageyama, considered Aiba. Not too familiar, though.

Aiba looked up when he saw a swish of black tail coat in the corners of his eyes. He yelped and moved backwards as Kageyama’s face came within inches of his own.  Kageyama smirked and straightened up, the silver tray in his white gloved hands perfectly horizontal. “Have some tea, Aiba-san. It isn’t tea time yet, but one can’t possibly resist a good cup in such wonderful weather, no?” Kageyama said serenely, enjoying the way the soft rays of spring sun bounce off of Aiba’s wide eyes. “Ah-h, sure. Thanks a lot,” Aiba stammered as he smiled back awkwardly at the butler, failing to comprehend Kageyama’s noiseless gliding. Kageyama placed the tray on the coffee table in front of him, gently picking up the fragile-looking china teapot and pouring out the golden liquid into the matching cup. He turned to look at his master’s guest and asked, “Sugar? Milk?” Aiba looked away quickly from Kageyama’s piercing eyes, just in case he gets lost in them. “Um, sugar, please. One cube.”

As he handed Aiba the cup of perfectly steeped tea, Kageyama said, “Master says that he will be down in a very short while. He is settling back into his room.” “Oh, has he been away?” Aiba asked politely, sipping the tea and staring in amazement at the liquid, stunned at how delicious tea could be. Kageyama smiled and said, “Yes. He was in New York for a few weeks. He just got back this morning.” Aiba nodded slightly in response, the rim of the cup at his lips. The topic ended abruptly. Silence filled the air. Aiba glanced sideways at Kageyama, who was looking straight at him, an amused look in his eyes. He quickly looked away. “S-so…” Aiba said, trying to create some small talk. “Ah, yes! How are Nino and Ohno? I hope they haven’t caused you trouble. Apart from almost drowning this morning, that is.” “The kittens have been such a wonderful addition to our small family! Ojou-sama seems happier and more energetic these days. And it is a good thing for her to have pets, it will teach her the true meaning of responsibility as she takes care of them,” answered Kageyama.

Aiba thought for a while, then asked, “But isn’t it you who takes care of the kittens?” Aiba saw Kageyama’s lip twitch. Kageyama then broke his posture and peered secretively through the towering carved arch of the piano room to ascertain that there were no lingering ears in the halls. Swiftly, he neared Aiba, took off his glasses and said exasperatedly, “They are so naughty, those two rascals! Two nights ago, when Ojou-sama was taking her midday nap, Nino managed to wriggle into my room and made a huge mess of my mystery crime novels! And then he walked out, looking innocent while bits of the pages that he chewed up were still stuck to his feet! And that Ohno! He keeps falling asleep everywhere! And in the weirdest places! I keep having mini panic attacks when he suddenly disappears and I can’t find him. I keep thinking that some neighbour’s Rottweiler has eaten him up or something and then Nino drags him in from the crook in the corner of the kitchen or in the middle of Ojou-sama’s  dress-up costumes or behind the barbeque pit by the pool! They are way more ill-mannered than Ojou-sama on her bad days!”

Kageyama inhaled and straightened up again, putting his glasses on. It took a while for Aiba to interpret the barrage of information that just flooded out from Kageyama’s mouth. Plus, the way he took off his glasses and his uncovered, deep eyes are also very distracting.

“Oh! I think I can help you with that,” Aiba said happily. Kageyama looked interested and replied, “Go on.” Aiba smiled and said, “It’s easy! You just have to know what each kitten likes and dislikes and use it to your advantage. Take Nino, for example. He is ABSOLUTELY in love with Ohno. And he kinda understands human language, he’s that smart.  So you can threaten him using Ohno as your hostage. That’ll make him hate you, though. Tough love, eh? Either that, or you can negotiate with him. He loves making deals and being in win-win situations,” Aiba grinned. Kageyama nodded as the cogs of his brain moved. “How ‘bout Ohno?” Kageyama asked. “Hmm, I don’t think you need to worry about him. As you said, at the end of the day, Nino brings him back whole, safe and sound. And that kitten does have good luck the amount of a hundred four-leaved clovers. Like this morning,” Aiba answered.

Kageyama’s brow furrowed in thought, and then he smiled and said, “You’re right! Thank you so much, Aiba-san. I open up so easily to you. I think I’m just stressed these days.” Automatically, Aiba said, “If you’re feeling stressed, why don’t we have fun and go out together sometimes?” Aiba realised what he just said and quickly clapped a hand to his mouth. Baka, baka, baka, Aiba chastised himself. A glint flashed though Kageyama’s glasses as he asked softly, “What did you just say? I’m sorry, I didn’t quite hear that.” Aiba blushed furiously as he opened his mouth wordlessly.

He was saved when loud footsteps came down the sweeping marble stairs, followed by the sound of Reiko’s voice talking excitedly. Matsumoto Jun entered the piano room, effortlessly handsome with just-washed hair and a clean, crisp white shirt with loose designer jeans. He was holding Reiko on his hips, the girl happily nuzzling his neck and cheek whilst she held on to the kittens. Kageyama bowed slightly and positioned himself behind Aiba’s chair. Aiba placed his teacup down with a rude clang and hurriedly stood up, bowed and gave his best smile to Jun. “No, no, please, sit down… Aiba-san, was it? I am the one who should be bowing down to you. It was very impolite of me to leave my guest all alone in my house. I hope you forgive me. I just had to take a quick shower, Reiko said I smelled bad after sitting on the plane for so long,” Jun said, smiling back suavely as Reiko giggled.

“No, not at all! I am very honoured just by being invited into your wonderful mansion. Yes, I’m Aiba, Aiba Masaki. I came today to drop off the new batch of kitten food and the pet toys Kageyama ordered. I can just go after this.” “Ah, yes. Thank you very much for those. But, please, stay here for a while. You can join us for lunch. It is rather refreshing to have a guest after such a long time. And you wouldn’t mind serving another guest at such short notice, do you, Kageyama?” Jun said, sitting down and placing his daughter gently beside him. “No, not at all, Master. I’ll go and make some adjustments to the lunch course. Excuse me,” Kageyama bowed and slipped out of the piano room towards the kitchen.

“So,” Jun said, an arm behind Reiko’s back as she played with Nino and Ohno, while looking straight at Aiba, “Did you just recently open your shop here? Where were you before this?” “Yes! It’s only around three weeks old, although I have had the animals there for a couple of months before, to get them accustomed to the shop. I graduated last year, actually. I’m a business major,” Aiba smiled. “Really? Where from?” Jun asked interestedly. “Keio.” “Why, that’s the same as our Kageyama! Are you sure you haven’t met him before?” Aiba, happily surprised by the connection, thought hard. “Hmm, I don’t think so. But he does look slightly familiar.”

Jun continued to stare at Aiba, a puzzled look reflected on his chiselled face. He leaned forward and asked, “I’m sorry if I’m mistaken, but are you in any way related to Aiba Foods Corporation?” Aiba looked shocked, and then he grinned, “As expected of the head of the Matsumoto Conglomerate! You do have eyes as sharp as a hawk’s, as they say. How did you know?” Jun laughed and replied, “Well, I’ve heard rumours about the first born rejecting the title of heir and handing the reins to the largest Chinese cuisine company in Japan to his younger brother, sacrificing the lifestyle of the rich and famous for his love of animals.” Aiba looked away shyly and said, “Yeah. I’ve never been really comfortable with it since I was a kid. I would rather be with the animals. They understand me better. As I do to them.” Ah, Aiba thought. Yet, Jun was just looking at him contentedly, a hand playing with his daughter’s ponytail.

“YOU MEAN YOU’RE FILTHY RICH, AIBA???” Aiba heard a shrill cry of amazement. Nino’s mouth was agape in disbelief. Ohno also looked on interestedly at his old owner, comfortable in the crook of Reiko’s arm. Aiba grinned at them silently. “Gosh, you could have at least bought us better food at the pet shop. All that gunk, sheesh,” Nino complained. “Um, anyway, may I know where the bathroom is?” asked Aiba, standing up. “It’s down the hall, three doors to your left,” Jun answered. “Ah, thanks.” Aiba politely nodded and headed out of the piano room.

“Ne, Papa, do you wanna play with Nino and Ohno?” Reiko asked, holding up the kittens in front of her father’s face. “Sure, honey. So the one I saved earlier is Nino?” Jun asked, taking Ohno in his hands. Ohno mewed happily. “Nah. That is Ohno. This is Nino,” Reiko corrected him, holding up a scowling Nino. “Oh. Well, hello there, Ohno! Aren’t you just the cutest kitten ever?” Jun said affectionately, tickling him under his chin. Ohno giggled and said, “Look, Nino! Master is so nice! And he’s so handsome, too! And I love him~!” Nino immediately wriggled out of Reiko’s small hands and leapt onto Jun’s lap. Holding his nose high, Nino sat in between Jun’s legs and concentrated hard. Ohno’s jaw dropped and he yelled, “No! Don’t do it, Nino! Not to Master!”

Hearing Ohno’s panicked meows, Jun sensed that something was terribly wrong. He stood up swiftly, leaving Nino on the chair and stared at him fearfully. Nino’s expression changed and he said, “Rats. I missed.” Ohno giggled. Jun carefully picked up the pouting kitten and saw a small, wet patch on the fabric of the upholstered chair. Reiko gawked curiously at the spot, and yelled, “AHH! NINO PEEPEE’D!!”

“Oh my gah. KAGEYAMA!!!”Jun howled in fury. Kageyama marched quickly into the room, saying, “What is wrong, Master?” “Take this vile kitten away, Kageyama! He just tried to pee on my lap! Now he ruined the chair!” Jun yelled, handing the struggling Nino to the surprised Kageyama. “W-well, certainly, Master.  I’ll call the shop and order another chair, too.” “Just hand Nino to me, Kageyama! I’ll scold him good!” Reiko stood up, her nose scrunched up and arms akimbo in an attempt to impersonate her father’s anger. Kageyama looked at Jun, who nodded. Receiving Nino, Reiko said, “You’re such a naughty kitten, Nino! You should not do that to anyone! Now, I’m gonna put you in my room until you’ve learnt your lesson.” Nino’s furry ears drooped as he pouted harder. She trotted off angrily out of the room. Ohno waved a lazy paw at Nino in goodbye, who scowled at him from over Reiko’s shoulder.

Jun sighed and flopped down on the piano chair, holding Ohno to his chest and stroking between his ears. Ohno purred satisfyingly. “Oh, check on our guest, Kageyama. He went to the guest bathroom a while ago. I hope he’s not lost.” “Certainly,” Kageyama replied, walking out of the room.

Alone, Jun whispered to Ohno, “Things around here are rather chaotic, aren’t they?” Ohno mewed, rubbing his head against Jun’s shirt.

Heading towards the bathroom, Kageyama stopped in his tracks and did a double take. The door to his room was slightly ajar. Kageyama smiled and silently slipped inside. Inside, Aiba was running his fingers on the row of mystery crime novels Kageyama had arranged on the shelf beside his bed. He chuckled when he saw the edges of the books that Nino had blatantly vandalised. He then walked to Kageyama’s neatly made up bed, touching his pillow lightly. Kageyama crept up behind him, taking in the scent of Aiba’s neck before whispering dangerously close to his ear, “What are you doing, Aiba-san?”

Aiba jumped a feet in the air, knocked his knee on the bedframe and fell disgracefully onto Kageyama’s bed, shock obvious in his eyes when he saw Kageyama’s smirking face. Aiba started spluttering apologies and excuses. “K-Kageyama-san! I’m s-so sorry! I was just looking around for my, umm…” Kageyama took of his glasses and wiped it absentmindedly using a white handkerchief that materialised in his hand. He placed both on the side table before slowly crawling onto the bed, hovering above Aiba and resting an arm above Aiba’s face, which couldn’t be any redder. His dark eyes staring straight into Aiba’s soul, Kageyama said softly, “You’re that eager to get into my bed, huh?”

Aiba was about to protest meekly when Kageyama closed in on the space between their lips. Aiba’s eyes, which were as round as dinner plates, started to flutter close as he slowly got lost in Kageyama’s gentle kiss and dreamy embrace. He sighed pleasurably as Kageyama smiled against their kiss.

A clear thought popped into Aiba’s fuzzy mind. I’ve kissed these lips before.
