In response to the hazy, magic eight ball-ish uncertainty that has been my employment status, I decided to smash the damn thing against a wall and am now left with a clearer picture of my future. As of last week Thursday, I'm again an employee of Chimera Hobby Shop. What a great selection. Unfortunately, this day did not clear up all of the vagueness associated with the endeavor, and as such my first project was full of Manual Labor. Uffenbeck's out by the mall went out of business some time ago, and Bob took the opportunity to purchase a number of jewelry showcases as they would no longer be needing them. They, and I'm still not quite sure who they are, but when I find out will have some words for them, decided to move the showcases into the basement until Bob and I could come get them. This would have been a good plan, save for three facts. 1. The only way out of the basement is up a flight of stairs, presumably passing by the place where the showcases were stored originally. 2. Bob and myself are not, surprisingly enough, professional weight lifters, which is relevant because 3. The damn things weigh more than a bunch of really heavy things all piled on top of one another at the same time. Thus, what was supposed to be a two or three hour side trip to get some nifty glass storage units has turned into a three day forearm and back breaking excursion as we push ourselves past the limit of human endurance.
Another fascinating thing to note is that having been on the job for three days now, three people have come to Bob while I was present to basically ask for my job, at which point Bob simply points to me and says, " I already hired this guy." This wouldn't be awkward by itself, but these people are adults. And not "hey I can vote and drink alcohol" adults like me, I mean "hey I'm twice your age" adults. Needless to say I felt weird every time it was pointed out to someone with much more experience and probably vastly superior managerial skills that I was the one chosen and not them. One could point out that it was simply due to timing as I asked Bob first, but I saw one guy talking to Bob and get shot down before things had even entered the hazy phase for me. One could also argue that Bob has already worked with me and knows how I get things done, but again I'd argue the whole experience factor. Or, most realistically, you could say that Bob would have a hard time paying an Adult what he is currently paying me. Not that I'm complaining. It's better than no money, it's not in the food industry, and another proverbial carrot is in front of me promising more pay once I can start bringing in revenue.
Still, being picked over what are in my mind more qualified individuals is a bit of a confidence and ego boost, which is helpful because I really have no clue what I'm supposed to be doing. I suppose that's a bit of a lie, but not by much. There was a two hour meeting with Bob today where he went over the basics of what I should be doing. He threw out the term Project Manager at one point, and I couldn't tell if he was joking or not, but I've decided to grab on to the title since it sounds kind of sexy and seems like a good thing to be able to put in Cyllian Rail on a Bone colored business card if I ever wish to. In fact I've already purchased a portfolio to keep things organized because he was throwing things at me left and right in the meeting between the tangential conversations that kept cropping up.
As such, I now have a paper calendar and a steady schedule, and looking it over it seems I'll be a bit busy for a while. My weekends are full until March at the earliest, so that's probably the soonest I'll be able to get down to Milwaukee to pick up the rest of my stuff, as my mom does not wish to take another day off from potential jobs.
I played in FNM at Chimera this week, with astonishingly similar results to last week. Once again I was playing Mannequin, as though I was in the process of being a filthy netdecker and building Rogues for Morningtide, I was and still am short about 4 cards for the deck. The deck was the same as last week, save I managed to get my hands on a fourth Faerie Conclave (which I probably have a whole stack of sitting in my card boxes right next to me now. :/ ) Since I'm such a lazy bastard, I still haven't checked out what cards I forgot to write into the deck list, but I may still edit that entry to complete the list. And since my notebook for the results is in my car and the temperature in the garage is roughly that of when atoms stop moving, I'll edit this entry with a report in later as well. Needless to say the abridged version is that I went 3-0-1, only lost one game the entire night, and played all three guys of a three guy group that comes to Chimera from Ripon for FNM.
