Three weeks ago I got a job as a prepper and Q-5 painter. I was supposed to have training, along with the initial supplies I'd need to do the job.
What I got was maybe half of the supplies I needed and half-assed training. Mostly an outline of what I'd generally be doing. One of the guys I work with, Scott, keeps getting 'stern talkings to'. At first, he'd point out to the boss that greenhorns can't be sent in and expected to do the work of painters. I so agree with that. I call Dwight, my father-in-law and owner of the company, with highlights of the outrageous behavior his trusted people are exhibiting.
Dwight named the company B. G. Grace, which stands for By God's Grace. He feels that he's come this far by those means coupled with his ideals of honesty, integrity and fair dealings. He's a member of the Rotary, who operate with similar ideals. I, and the people who deal with him in business appreaciate the way he writes contracts and is willing to go a little further than the written word to get what needs to be done, done. His intentions were to have his employees, especially management, agree with his precepts.
Unfortunately, my boss seems to have difficulties. Either he's selectively senile or he's an awful liar who can't remember who he told what. I'm leaning towards the latter. On more than one occasion he's lied to me. He's lied to coworkers and the builders we work for. He doesn't exactly 'stand and deliver', more like 'hit and run'. Makes me sad. The paint division of the company is very new and started out sort of slow. It was picking up speed, but I can see mismanagement taking it's toll. We've already lost one community (literally a million dollar contract paid over a year's time). I wonder how many more he's going to be allowed to lose.
Scott, who's run a sixty man operation, isn't afraid to tell Lonnie where he's going astray. He calls himself an asshole, but I don't see pointing out grave errors without cursing and yelling being an asshole. I call that caring about the place your bread and water is coming from. I continue to report incidences to Dwight, unasked or not. He needs to know that the guy he thought was doing a fine job really isn't. When the crap hits the fan, I'd like to be covered @_@.
