Honestly all Valentine's has meant to me this year is staying up too late to watch The Nanny marathon. But as the clock rolled over to the 14th I switched over to "Til Debt Do Us Part" on CNBC after catching part of the Suze Orman show. They're both good money shows, and if you can stomach Suze approving rich people $100,000 cars and $5000 bracelets you can actually learn a lot from it. However in celebration of Valentine's I'm going to shine the spotlight on "Til Debt Do Us Part" since it focuses on money and relationships.
If you didn't know, Debt/money issues have been for many years the leading cause of divorce. To me that's a great shame, so I'm glad to see a program that specifically addresses the issue. You can catch "Til Debt Do Us Part" on
CNBC in the U.S and on
Slice in Canada . In the few episodes I've caught, the host goes over the same basic formula, with different games and challenges thrown in to address the couples specific issues and spice things up. But yes, I recommend singles catch an episode or two because an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
If Valentine's gets you blue, I recommend celebrating the non-romantic types of love. Get together with your other single friends, family, or just spoil yourself. Or you could use one these free dating site to meet someone:
http://www.freedatingusa.com/http://mingle2.com/http://www.okcupid.com http://www.plentyoffish.com Okay the top one actually reviews free dating sites, rather than being one itself, and okcupid.com is the only one I can recommend from personal experience...but out of fairness, I thought I'd link to more than just my favorite. (Though I'm considering trying
http://www.christianmingle.com update: It's not really a free site...I think that's why I had not linked to mingle2.com before too. It just pretends to be free. However for a dating site, the price is fairly reasonable [and they'll offer you a 2 months for 1 deal if you try to delete your account].)
www.eHarmony.com is also having another free communication weekend. I'm on their mailing list, and I still never hear about these things until they're almost over. *sigh* Out of the paid dating sites this one seems to have the best matching system (assuming you're marriage minded). They just cost a lot more than I'm willing to pay.
But let's pretend you're one of those lucky people who has someone for Valentine's. What's your favorite cheap date idea?
