Fireflies
by A denver Mile
The first full moon. Summer comes, it took so long. The fields of green lie in wait for me to run and fall to the ground.
Did you see those stars? See the trees bend down to catch you on? It's a strange night of blue skies in May. If you're coming out tonight to see the waves of dancing fireflies,
to see the way we end these sullen, summer nights...
A winter sky opens up and pours out white paper on a frozen ground that's still alive; piled with leaves; cracked; the colors faded from red to brown. The seasons are dead and gone.
Did you see those stars? I feel them looking down. It's strange how they never fade away. They never left us in the night, packed their things and caught the train, hopped aboard and waved goodbye. Wish I could stay. I wish I could.
Did you see those stars? I feel you looking down. It's strange how you never seem to change. You never left us in our lives, to find our hope in darkened nights, to find our hope in a starless sky. When it seems like all is lost, open your eyes.
