battle for manners
Some time ago I witnessed this rather bizarre interaction. There's a middle aged fellow who comes out to our dances. His kids are literally the same age as our younger members, so he tends to adopt into a pseudo-dad role. At the end of one of our nights, people are getting ready to leave and he picks up the coat of a girl and holds it open for her to put it on (note: he has done this for others many times). She does not take well to this and thinks he's being oppressive and refuses. Meanwhile, he's confused and thinks he's doing it wrong and doesn't relinquish the coat. So now we've got a standoff, because neither is saying anything and holding on to their worldview.
