Some excerpts from a diary I bought the month I turned 14 years old
July 29th, 1984:
DD, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm 14 years old. I have blonde hair and blue eyes. I'm 5'0". My hobbies are horseback riding, reading, telling funny stories, running, biking, and skating and skateboarding. My favorite food is pizza, icecream, casseroles, tuna sandwiches, hamburgers, and hotdogs. I think that's all. My favorite animals (listed in the order that I like best), dogs (puppies too), raccoons, horses, cats, and birds. Hopefully I'll be writing to you every day. I'll have to start on July 27th because something very special happened on that day.
July 27th, 1984:
DD, Saun Jones asked me to go steady with him. I said yes. I was so happy. I felt a little bit bad too, because I'm doing it behind my parents back!
July 28th, 1984:
DD, today S.J. kissed me on the cheek in the back of Gregs truck. Later when we took him home, before he went inside he kissed me on the lips. He kisses good.
P.S. S.J. quit smoking because he knows I don't like it. He's so sweet!!
P.S. He gave me flowers!
July 30th, 1984:
DD, nothing much happened today. Saun didn't come because he had to go see his psycho. He called Diane a bunch of times to make sure she would make sure nothing would happen to me!
July 31st, 1984:
DD, Saun's G.M. made him quit! What a ...! I'm soooooooooooooooooooo upset about it. He's going to camp for two weeks. I don't think I'll ever see him again.
August 2nd, 1984:
DD, Greg never did call today. I talked to Saun on the phone today. He was sooo nervous! Well gotta go. Bye!
August 3rd, 1984:
I talked to Saun on the phone 4 times today. He was the one who called me every single time. He wanted my address so he could write to me from camp. He is beginning to be a pain!
August 9th, 1984:
DD, Saun wrote me a letter from camp. (More details later). I'm back. He's such a jerk. I am going to break up with him.
August 10th, 1984:
DD, a new guy came to work today for Greg. I think he likes me. Do I like him? Answer - ?
August 12th, 1984:
DD, Saun came back from camp today. He called me. Oggghhhgh! I told him to call back later because I was eating lunch. He didn't. Yay!
August 14th, 1984:
DD, Saun got mad because he couldn't come back to work. He told Diane that he was never going to break up with me! That's what he thinks because I'm going to break up with him!
August 16th, 1984:
DD, I'm not the cutest empolyee of Greg anymore. He thinks Darla and Tammy are. Well I'll tell you DD there is nothing special about Darlas looks. Tammy is v. pretty though. I think I'm jealous! sigh.
August 17th, 1984:
DD, I called Greg an @!x*0!. He heard me and when I was the only one in the truck he yelled, (hollered), screamed at me! Hee! Hee!
August 23rd, 1984:
DD, Darla, Tammy, and Armando quit today. I'm thinking about quitting too.
August 24th, 1984:
DD, today I quit the job selling candies and candles because Greg really is becoming impossible.
P.S. Saun hasn't called me in a week and 3 days! Yay! I don't like him anymore!
