Programming deadline reminder

Jan 21, 2015 07:57

We have a great list of possible panels for Minicon 50! Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered for programming. We could still use some more volunteers, so we have extended the deadline for panelists to February 1st.

If you are interested in being on panels, please check out the list on our programming page. Send an email to

Is it too late to submit panel ideas? Is this a list of panels that are actually happening or just the brainstorming list?

There aren't any panels about television which seems wrong. (And yeah, I know I know if I want things to happen I should suggest ideas and volunteer, but I haven't gotten around to it yet-- thus my question.)

The panel suggestion deadline was Dec 1. You can always *try* to still suggest a panel, of course, but Deanna might reasonably not take it at this point.

The list on the wiki is not the list of panels that will definitely happen, but the ones that we are accepting volunteers for.

You may want to clarify this somewhere, I've seen people commenting privately that the programming slate for this year looks really weak, including some saying they may not attend based on this info.

It's all spelled out in PR3 and at http://mnstf.org/minicon50/programming . The deadlines were announced in PR1 and PR2 as well.

I'm not sure how else to communicate this more clearly without a spam campaign. If people for whom programming is a top con priority won't even read the progress reports' sections about it, I'm out of ideas.

I was talking about the wording on the Wiki and programming page and I guess this particular solicitation for volunteers; I assume programming has already reached out to individuals they'd like to see on specific panels.

I thought your response meant that the programming items on the Wiki are not the items we can expect to see at Minicon, but the ones that still need panelists. I assumed that meant there were other program items that aren't listed on the Wiki as they're more finalized.

(So I worried that people would look at the items listed on the Wiki and think that was the list of program items when it is merely a list of possible items and not comprehensive.) (Also some panelists are listed on the Wiki who haven't been told they're on those panels or asked to be on them, so I assume that's merely brainstorming data and not final info.)

I guess I should look at the wiki page itself and make sure that it is harmonious with the other things that we've said. I've been treating that as the programming department's business.

Deanna says that it is fine to suggest a panel idea before Feb 1 as long as you will sit on the panel and have another person committed to sitting on it. (I suppose as a corollary, it would also be ok if you had two people other than yourself ready to sit on it.)
