Things were all screwed up. Kon didn't think they could possibly fall to a lower level of 'screwed up' than they had before, but this? This was the worst. Hands down.

It'd all started earlier that day, when he'd had the bright little idea to go back to Gotham. After all, he'd promised Tim that he'd come back to him, hadn't he? That he'd show him he was okay, when this was all over with. So he'd let the Kents know where he was going, assured them he would be back, and...

And he'd been so fucking clueless. He'd been so happy, thinking he'd finally get to see him, and when he'd arrived, it'd been...

He'd been so clueless. And when he got there, all that happiness had shattered into little pieces as his heart plummeted down. It wasn't even his worst fears come true, it'd been what he'd never even thought to conceive come true. And now the scene was all he could see. It kept flashing through his mind. The tape lines, the markings of a police scene, and... the blood. There'd been so much of it. Too much for whoever... for whoever had been here to possibly be alive.

He's been taking that long ago advice to heart. He's been opening his eyes and ears, he's been searching all over fucking Gotham, but he can't find anything. Which either meant that you couldn't find someone who didn't want to be found, or that... that...

No. It didn't mean that. It couldn't mean that. Kon refused to accept it, but as the minutes grew, it became more of a fear in his heart. And it became harder to summon up the power to search.

Which is why, for the past ten minutes, he's been sitting on a rooftop, curled up into himself. He was pretending it was to listen clearer, but really, it was to get ahold of himself. If that was even possible.

He could barely think, all he could do was focus on what couldn't be...

It couldn't be.
