A man sat next to me on the train while his family (a couple and their three kids) sat across the aisle from us. He and one of the kids seemed intrigued by me. He said they came to Canada for 15 days and had gotten out of prison in Thailand recently. The little girl was staring for the entire ride. He'd translate what she said, which was that my look was interesting. I don't mind people asking about it, especially since they had never been to North America or seen pierced/tattooed people. They seemed genuinely interested but not weirded out. The girl kept running her hand over my knee tattoo, since it's still new and bumpy. Fine enough for a 7 year old, but the dude started doing it too. He also asked about my ears and I showed them how my pinky fits through the tunnel. Before I could react, he stuck his finger in my ear hole and pulled the tunnel out. He then invited the kid to do the same. Dude, I don't mind answering questions about my mods, but hygiene dictates that strangers on the subway don't fucking touch the piercings I've managed to keep clean and infection-free for so far.
I tried to be nice so I wouldn't be an arrogant ethnocentric North American giving them a bad impression. But next time. . . the Ipod stays on and the piercings stay sterile.
