Power steering failure

Does anyone else have similar problems that they've fixed? About how much did it cost? I know if it goes to recall that I won't have to pay for it, however that could take quite a while, and really I don't have the $$$. I knew service for MINIs was expensive, but having put $500 into rear brakes right before Christmas, it's not in the budget. My poor little car.
