I am leaving
for a couple of days
but it's long enough for things to change
for the sun to shower down
and the clouds to rain
while i am away
for a couple of days

and do you wonder,
while i am on the road,
if you'll find happiness on your own?
If you'll smile like to you
when i'm home?
even though you don't know
where on the road i'll go

it will only be a couple days
but it's long enough to learn
another's name
long enough to trace the lines of a stranger face
will it make your insides decay?

and i'll wonder
while on errant streets like these
if you wanted to watch me leave
if your breath caught you up
when you tried to breathe
when the world moves beneath my feet

For only a couple of days
but it's long enough to hold a body
beneath pleasure's waves
long enough to know if it was a mistake
while i am away
