I mean it,
this made me cheer out loud for
this school board. I believe Christians should seek to propagate the proper Christian values to their community, but these assholes have missed the mark. I know this musical well. If any of you have stayed at my house over night, you probably have heard me sing songs from this musical in the shower in the morning (by the by pitheta - this is one of Tim's favorite musicals and he is the one that introduced it to me). The Jarboes obviously made a point to form a preconceived idea of the content of the musical Jekyl & Hyde based on the characters and setting, then somehow misconstrued it to mean a modern day setting. They obviously sat there only concerned in making a statement that it was inappropriate to Christian values, rather than see it actually does promote Christian values. It also highlights the idea that people are not always what they seem to be. Those in high society, supposedly model citizens, are often in all reality the biggest monsters, full of hypocrisy and darkness; while those who on the surface are considered the scourge of society, those who were abandoned by those who should have helped them, those different in some way who are not evil, just different - they are marginalized and demonize erroneously - are almost definitely more saintly than those pretentious bastards claiming piety.
So these fucktards didn't bother to actually pay attention to the message, brought forth and arbitrary complaint seeking validation. The Cornwall-Lebanon School Board chose not to validate the inappropriate way the couple chose to demonstrate their... ideals. The couple probably just proved to exemplify the message of Jekyl & Hyde (story and musical), those pretending to be something they truly are not will eventually prove to be the monsters.
Good on the Cornwall-Lebannon School Board!
CORNWALL-LEBANON SCHOOLS Jarboes complain about 'filth' in musical

BY MONICA VON DOBENECK Of Our Palmyra Bureau
LEBANON - Carl and Abigail Jarboe, Christian activists and perennial candidates, told the Cornwall-Lebanon School Board Monday night that the high school musical was inappropriate for students.
"Jekyll & Hyde" is full of murders, prostitution and Christian-bashing, they said.
School officials, however, countered that if the Jarboes can't behave during the musicals, they will not be permitted to attend.
"It was reported that you were booing our students on stage and giving them thumbs-down," Superintendent Tom Sherk said.
"That is not appropriate."
The Jarboes denied booing, and Carl Jarboe said he gave one thumbs-down at the end.
"That's libel, slander," Abigail Jarboe said. "I want to know who told you that. I want their names. ... Whoever told you is lying."
School board President Gary Watts said he heard similar reports, and nobody else had complained about the musical.
"The vast majority were comfortable with it, and your behavior was not fair to the students," Watts said. "If that behavior continues, you will be denied access to the shows."
Two parents of students involved with the musical said the students did a wonderful job and urged the board to encourage the young actors and crew.
According to Abigail Jarboe, some student actors dressed like prostitutes and acted in a sexually suggestive manner.
She said she read the original play and there were no prostitutes and only one murder in it.
"Is this the kind of filth you want to promote?" she asked. "This is supposed to be a somewhat Christian area. You should encourage students to lead moral lives."
Carl Jarboe said he took notes throughout the play and was shocked.
"A bishop tried to proposition a prostitute and appeared to be drunk," he said. "Christians are in the same position today as Jews were in the 1920s and 1930s."
Dr. Jekyll kills himself in the final scene, which teaches that "suicide is the way out of your problems," he said.
Sherk said district officials had to speak to the Jarboes about their behavior before, when they were recording students on tape recorders during a school fair a few years ago.
Carl Jarboe said he would reply to that charge in a letter to the district's lawyer.
Sherk said the Jarboes have the right to complain to the school board, however.
"On numerous occasions, you have come here and we have listened in a respectful manner," he said.
