Not been updating much of late due to getting hooked on Far Cry, a most absorbing first-person shooter. It's also got the most impressibe enemy AI I've played since Half Life's commandoes, even if their conversation is a tad limited!. And I still haven't even installed Unreal Tournament 2004 yet...

On the cons front, why can't anything be simple, just once? Recently learned that the London Film and Comic Con on the same weekend as SG-8 has announced its first three guests, Jeanette Goldstein, Mark Rolston and Rico Ross aka Privates Vasquez, Drake and Frost from Aliens. Furthermore, it has announced plans for an Aliens cast reunion. I am so tempted to bunk off SG-8 on whichever day the cast reunion is!

Sunday
Met with Nick to go to the demo/lecture day at the National Army Museum on the evolution of infantry weapons. A most entertaining day, both with the general exhibits (we'd got as far as the Napoleonic period in a previous visit) and the special displays, especially a display of bayonet fencing (replica rifles with spring-loaded, round-tipped bayonets) which apparently was a common sport in the Army and even a regular item at the Royal Tournament until a few decades back. Regretably, the gear isn't available any more - it'd be a fun thing to take to the fencing club!

I was rather disappointed, though, that, after the final lecture, even the gathered museum curators and squaddies still couldn't tell me why bullpup rifles are so named (rifles like the AUG and SA-80 where the magazine and bolt mechanism are behind the pistol/trigger assembly)! Just lots of blank looks and replies that, "That's a very good question..."

In the evening I then met Liz for drinks and dinner as she was taking the following week off and felt like being decadent by going out on a Sunday evening!

Monday
Met with Kate and Neil for post-fencing drinks, without the fencing as term's over... Kate passed me the Robin of Sherwood DVDs she ordered for me back in December so my collection is now complete. Still couldn't tell me how much I owed her for them or the Maltese wine. Sheesh. Never thought I'd have this much difficulty trying to hand over money I owe!

Tuesday
Met Sue for beers (er... starting to spot a trend here?) and much entertaining geeky goosip, via the Confetti store on Tottenham Court Road as my sister wanted more details on place cards, ribbons, disposable cameras etc... Only problem is she's now trying to persuade me to go to Cult TV.

Wednesday
Went to the gym for the first time in ages. Ouch. I've also been away long enough my workout card's been removed so I have another evaluation session today.
