First up, Gong Xi Fa Cai. Best wishes for a prosperous Year of the Dog!

Fun weekend.

Saturday: Met Hazel, Gary and Debbie at St Pancras Station, then met up with Karen at Leicester Square for for a geeky shopping expedition to Forbidden Planet and similar, had lunch in Chinatown then met up with Sharon, whose Birthday it was, for a wander round Picadilly (Hazel wanted to visit Fortnum and Masons) before dinner and some jazz at a pizzeria off Regent Street. Had a great time geeking out about Blake's 7 and BSG especially. Certainly stirred my interest in B7. There does seem to be a high correlation between being a fan of B7 and BSG... Apparently were in awe at my sadness (anoraknophobia?) - still being able to recite Travis' defence speech from Trial etc but they're now trying to persuade me to go to Star One, as well as the memorobilia show in Manchester. One scary realisation for us: that we'd all known each other for well over a decade now! Only downside of the day: had to leave house in the morning before BSG 2x14 had become available for download on Usenet or Bittorrent!

Sunday: Wasn't really planning to do much for Chinese New Year, apart from speaking to parents on the phone. I popped out in the afternoon to pick up some blank DVDs (mainly because Kate had texted the previous night to request copies of China Beach DVDs for a friend, in exchange for beers...) then figured I'd stop by at Oriental City (actually, was also vaguely interested in checking out the Chinese furniture stores there for cabinets which might be convertible into a wooden PC case...) and got there just in time for the lion dance and stayed on for the martial arts demo, Cantonese opera, acrobats and fireworks. Also picked up a load of food and Tsingtao beer from the supermarket, stopped by local takeaway for more food and settled in back home with Fong Sai Yuk on the DVD player! May be back at Oriental City in a couple of weekends (seems their celebration activities will still be on next weekend and the weekend after!) as Liz wants to see them. Mel will also probably be heading down there next weekend, after I described what went there on to her on MSN!

Tomorrow: not sure what's happening with fencing. As of today, Rob's still not sure if the gym will be available again...
