OMG! GUYS!!!! THIS PAGE!!!! I CANNOT GET OVER HOW WONDERFUL IT IS THAT THIS PAGE EXISTS!!!!
http://www.soundcomparisons.com/ This compares the pronunciation of different English dialects. Here are the things about it that make me turn inside-out with joy:
1. Narrow IPA transcription, which means anyone with formal training in linguistics (like me) can read the text pronunciation.
2. Audio pronunciation plays WHEN YOU HOVER OVER THE WORD.
SERIOUSLY GUYS. I have seen a lot of language pages, and pronunciation guides, on the web. The best you can get is usually to open a page that plays the word in an *mp3 file. The cleanest solutions require javascript or shockwave or shit like that. But THIS. THIS! ALL YOU HAVE TO DO TO HEAR IT IS HOVER. NO APPLETS. NO NEW WINDOWS. JUST HOVER AND HEAR. HOVER AND HEARRRRR!!!!
WHY DOESN'T ANYONE USE THIS? I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE SINCE NOBODY USED IT WHERE IT WOULD BE THE MOST APPROPRIATE SOLUTION. IS THE FUTURE FINALLY HERE????????
Excuse me, I'm going to post this first and then look at the source code.
