highlight of my morning: standing in line at the bookstore waiting to pay for my diet dr. pepper, hearing a campus security dude and a maintenance guy talking about whether kyle farnsworth's problem was his control or his refusal to throw anything that wasn't a fastball, and getting to turn and say, "it's neither - he just doesn't have his head screwed on right and he never has, and chicago was bad for him. if he'd had a decent vet in the bullpen in detroit when he was throwing to pudge rodriguez, or a decent catcher in atlanta when he was throwing with smoltz, he'd be fine now. but he didn't, and all he's interested in is the tail he's going to get after the game", before paying for my soda and sailing away, leaving them standing behind me open-mouthed. *wins at baseball*
work continues to kick my ass, but today i kicked back a little, and i've got a few free hours to sit down and update my to-do list and breathe (and probably write, oh, thank you, lord), plus it's thursday. so. this week's list is an old favorite (of mine, at least): top five favorite songs right now (take ten). go on. what's new, what's old, what's good right now.
my list (all songs on my webspace, right-click-save, comment if you download):1.
"borrowed bride", the old 97s. the default daniel/vala song of my soul: she is certain she'll never be caught/you can buy her things now, but she'll never be bought.
2.
"psycho ballerina", jackpot.
makesmewannadie sent me some tracks by this band, and i adore them; sort of dreamy, hard driving rock, with just a little bit of twang. mmmmmm.
3.
"cry like a baby" (live), kasey chambers. and i don't have answers for every single question/but that's okay because i'm just a kid.
4.
"goodbye to carolina", lyle lovett. i'm not leaving the nc any time soon, but i've been in the mood for this track lately; it's swingy and a little sad, and just gorgeous.
5.
"we are more", erin mckeown.
perfectbound introduced me to erin mckeown back over the winter, and i just adore her voice. this is my favorite track of hers, and i've had it on repeat pretty constantly on the ipod lately. (this is an .m4a, and i'm too lazy to re-rip to mp3. sorry, kids.)
OKAY, NOW YOU GO.
