more than 5. Hey, I'm Southern, I cannot limit it to just 5.
  1. Sunday Dinner - it is a cheat but true. Sunday dinner, that whole meal: jello salad, cranberry salad, fruit salad, salad, fried okra, succotash, squash casserole, macaroni pie, dressing, mashed potatoes, rice, gravy, turkey, ham, rolls, coconut cake, apple & caramel cake. The act of preparing it, just seeing the table covered in Sunday Dinner is a comfort not to mention eating it.
  2. Okra & Tomatoes - I either make my own or my gran makes it. no one else's count.
  3. fried fish - not just any fried fish but fried fish bought on the side of the road, fried for you on the spot in a giant cast iron pot. Served on top of two slices of white bread & with vinegar & hot sauce liberally poured of the top of the fish
  4. Boiled Peanuts - bought off the side of the road, from the peanut man in the market in Charleston, or from Cromers. Best from the first two on the list. Still warm from the pot & the sun and just perfectly salty & wonderful.
  5. muscadines & scuppernogs - The sticky sweet smell that hangs in the air around the vines, the almost over ripe grapes warm in the sun and almost bursting, the amazing taste.
  6. Hoppin John - field peas & onions over rice with a sweet tomato & onion relish on top
  7. scattered, smoothered & covered - just yes
