[but you my brother in arms]

I was going to do that pairing list from the people in your icons meme, but then the list gave me Nomar Garciaparra/Orlando Bloom and my brain liquified from the sheer ... something of that idea. So I gave up.

Besides, everyone knows that Nomar/his Brita filter is the only Nomar pairing worth anything at all.

Fic Recs:
+ Like Describing The Alphabet, by mosca. Firefly. Jayne/Mal with a side of Kaylee/Inara and Zoe/Wash. R. This is a good long plotty funny sad sexy Mal/Jayne story, which is really pretty much all I look for in a Firefly story.

+ yellow ledbetter, by _cee. lotrips. viggo/orlando, pg-13. This was the first piece of fic I read in my new apartment, sitting on the porch with a Shiner Bock, and, you know, before you read this, you all should go get a beer and sit outside. Because it's that kind of perfect moment story. Mmmm.

+ five ways that sirius black never returned from the dead, by allecto. HP. Sirius gen. PG-13ish. This page is impossibly hard to read - black text on a dark green background - but the story is interesting and if you can bear to suffer the layout, it's worth a read. It sometimes rings too sugary for me, but it's clever, which counts for something.

+ Written By Hand, by setissma. HP. Remus/Sirius, R. Such a clever premise, and one I believe - that Remus loves words, and wants them around him. And the love in this story; oh, it made me heartsick and happy. and the END. the END KILLED ME DEAD.

+ Smoke, by Hetre Z. HP. Ron. Hermione. Harry. Ginny. Exquisite, jewel-like gen about Ron, and the people around him. This is quiet and disturbing and odd, but lovely.

+ That the Science of Cartography is Limited, by rave. HP. Remus/Sirius. And the Marauders. So I am clearly going through my to-be-read bookmarks, which have been sadly neglected, so if I am reccing things that are passe and out-of-date, forgive me. But this. It's about the map, and Remus, and grief, and eggs and toast, and Grimmauld Place, and it's just stunning. Another one where words play this role that's just perfect for Remus.

+ The I Ching of It All, by turned_earth. HP. Lavender and Hermione, with a side of unseen Snape. PG-13. This is so thoughtful, and interesting, and it gives a lovely look at Lavender, who I don't usually think much about. And sad, this is sad, but really I'm not interested in reading HP fic that isn't subtle and sad at least a little. So. Read this.

+ the absence of truth in cartography, by angelgazing. Ocean's 11. Danny/Rusty. R. This is stunning. It's so vivid, and it's that word in the title, cartography, and it's all about finding out the right map. The one you need now. It's just. This story is so perfect it hurts.

+ Scenes from the Tragical, Comical, Historical, Pastoral, Implausible Life of Geoffrey Tennant, Actor. Slings & Arrows. Geoffrey gen. As both a former theater major and a fan of this show: read this. It's fucking brilliant. Even if you don't read fic (*cough*febrile*cough*), read this. Especially if you've been watching the Sundance broadcasts of Slings & Arrows.

Fandom:
+ A Remus Lupin-centric recap of HBP. If one was, say, writing Harry Potter and the Homoerotic Backstory, this might be useful.

+ Beautiful Rosencrantz and Guildenstern icons.

+ A lovely article about the new season of Slings and Arrows. (S2, currently airing in Canada; not S1, currently airing in the States, and I WILL PAY SOMEONE to tape and mail me the rest of the episodes airing on Sundace; I don't get it anyway.)

+ Desperate Housewives quote icons. I love these.

+ I don't need another fandom - especially an expensive one like BPAL - but sophia_helix put together a really fantastic newbie FAQ for BPAL. Rockin'.

+ Is This A Kissing Book? - the Lord of the Rings films told entirely through Princess Bride Quotes. I laughed so hard I snarfed Cheerwine out my nose.

Community Pimp:
+ crack_broom: it's like crack_van, except for specific HP pairings! I don't read crackvan on my flist - too high volume for me - but I live and die by their memories, and I think that this is an equally interesting resource. They even have a permanent reccing spot for gen! Which we all know is my weakness.

Random Crap Wot I Found On The Internet:
+ Chicagoist: I find the writing style of this blog-esque Chicago site a little too sweet and contrived, but I could accuse myself of the same thing, and besides, the writers talk about Chicago like the city was a person - which as we all know, I'm rather fond of myself.

+ AIRBORNE CATS. This is the best thing ever. Then look at the gallery of cats being bathed!

+ The Definitive Major League Baseball/Simpsons Analogy List. Every Major League team and their Simpsons character counterparts. Height of comedy, this. Link from snafuuu

+ poisoninjest's icons are always gorgeous, but she's just outdone herself with these Monty Python and the Holy Grail icons

+ The Cult of Cusack: why do women love this man? I don't know, CBC, you tell me.
