Happy happy birthday,
queenofalostart! I owe you martinis.
I am currently stuffing the MLB All-Star Game ballot box with votes for Neifi Perez for the NL Shortstop. I cannot begin to explain why I find the idea of Neifi as an All-Star to be so riotously hilarious, but I do, and if you all loved me, you would all write in Neifi Perez, Chicago Cubs, for NL Shortstop on your ballots, too, so he could maybe have a chance at winning. (Wot? You can't vote for Nohmr, Nohmr's broken!)
This is skimpy today. Whoops.

When At Last Our Nights Are Lonely, by
estrella30. due South. Fraser/RayK, R. The double timeline of this works perfectly, the frustration and anger and love are absolutely palpable, and it's got a happy ending. Which is, you know, what I look for in due South stories. If you want something more, how about this: Everything was so familiar: the way Ray slouched in his chair, the light scent of coffee and hair gel and Ray's brand of laundry detergent. Fraser wanted to bury his face against Ray's chest and breathe in, he wanted to kiss Ray's neck and touch Ray's lips with his fingers and press his tongue inside Ray's mouth. He wanted to tell Ray he was sorry, that he didn't mean any of it, and nothing was worth this - them not being together.

Debauched, by
freedomfry. lotrips. Orlando/Bean, R. See, there's no point to me picking the post-breakup Orlando gen story that's been languishing on my harddrive since before there was even a breakup, because this is better, yo. Plus, lines like this:"Just wanted to say Kate looks terrific tonight - saw her walk down the red carpet a few moments ago."
"Doesn’t she, though? I think The Aviator's going to come up big tonight," Orlando replied.
Sean blinked at the phone, then laughed. "Oh, not Blanchett, you daft bugger. Your Kate," he said.
It's just sharp and sexy and an inevitable spiral, and I dig it.

the king of new orleans, by
_cee. lotrips. AU. Viggo, Orlando, Hobbits. (I don't rec WIPs, for the most part, because I don't follow them, for the most part. But! I am reccing this, because it is divine.) Set in New Orleans, this is drifty and haunted and startlingly real, except when it's not, and those bits are good, too. It's kind of an odd fever dream, is what it really is, and it feels like a long series of snapshots that tell a complete story, and it is exquisite. That's the only word for it.
