The rest of the Doughty photos are
here. The show was excellent; a tight set that made me really appreciate the new album, and Doughty's band is not only talented but also friendly and lolarious. His keyboard player wears girl pants! His drummer sweats a lot and hugged me! It distracted me from my haze of Drive-By Truckers obsession for almost two days!
Clearly the only appropriate way to listen to the Truckers boot from the show last Friday is on noise-cancelling headphones with the volume on the laptop as loud as it will go. I'm gonna be deaf by 30, but I'm gonna be deaf and happy. (I don't listen to all my music that loud, I promise; it's just that the Truckers really necessitate as-loud-as-possible. It's their modus operandi: drink Jack, take names, kick ass, turn their amps up as loud as they'll go.)
I have recently become obsessed with
Tastespotting, which is a food blog syndicator, so instead of having to troll food blogs endlessly looking for recipes that I inevitably bookmark and don't cook, I only have to read this one! Plus there are pictures. We all know I love pictures of food, if I can't be eating said food.
People, I am really, really boring lately. Here is what I have been doing lately: taking pictures; watching basketball; working a lot; giving in to my urges to nest by rearranging my furniture; contemplating the genius of Mike Cooley with
quicknow on IM; listening to the Drive-By Truckers; reading a lot of books. I hadn't written in, liek, weeks, but last week while I was staring at my Jason Isbell bootleg torrent and cursing it, I dusted off a mostly-finished story about barely legal Bob Bryar fooling around with rock stars twenty years older than him in Chicago venue bathrooms and hopefully I'll actually get that finished all the way soon. I used to write stories! It seems like a million years ago, but actually it was only two months.
