it's set

So, after a dinner lecture by the Chief Medical Office of VCA (a company that buys existing veterinary hospitals and that owns a bunch) and a "pep talk" about how internships really benefit new grads, I decided to apply for the internship. If I get one it's gonna be a really tough year and I'll be tired, but... well, I can do anything for a year. And I'll learn SO much. Internships are like 3-4 years of general practice smooshed into 1. My confidence will definitely be higher and I'll be more comfortable being a real doctor hehe. They say those that have done internships actually come out into general practice earning more than their counterparts. And I bet the job market (which looks to be pretty slim as of right now on Long Island) for small animal associate veterinarians would be much more open to hiring someone with an internship under her belt rather than a brand spankin' new veterinarian who has barely got her feet wet.

It'll just be a really tough year. Tougher than now.

That is, if I match (which I won't know until March).

So I think if all goes smoothly, I will apply to 10 internships in New York (Long Island and the City), and 2 in Ohio (OSU's, which I am pretty much guaranteed to not get; and MedVet's).

Oy. I guess I better get my ass in gear and get to applying.
