some random things

Hmm... not much new to report really.

So Raven pretty much spoiled me.... she was so easy from the get-go, I forgot what it was like to have to train and "entertain" a dog. She's always been an independent woman (haha), ie: going "up to bed" at 9 pm on the dot, playing on her own, etc. In fact I think she prefers it if we leave her alone haha.

Bentley is very different. However, I've definitely found the way to keep him content and tired (ergo, well-behaved)--- running with him has allowed me to go outside and run, which I've wanted to do but was too lazy to plot out a route... it also keeps him active and exhausts him. After an evening run he is pretty much sacked out for the rest of the night. He likes it though.... he's slowly learning "let's go" means "hurry or I'm going to just drag your lazy ass along!" He's fallen very nicely into our daily routine, which is nice because it allows him to not really be alone during the day for more than an hour or so. He's still able to be alone for longer (we went to the pool for 3 hours on Sunday and he was fine), but I'm sure he appreciates it if we don't leave him that long. While we're gone though, he does get a nice stuffed kong filled with nummies (the other half of his breakfast plus a rice/yogurt/Bil Jac/canned dog food/carrot monstrosity, capped off with a plug of peanut butter). He finishes it all so I guess he enjoys it.

Poor Slinky. All last week he peed on the couches... presumably from stress. I think he originally thought that Bentley was "just visiting", and when he realized he was staying, he got irritated. Doesn't help that I totally ruined Slinky by babying him and carrying him around and cooing to him all the time.... now that there's another creature to give attention to, Slinky's upset. But today he was all up in my lap and purring, which is different from the way he's been earlier. I hope he's adjusting to having this big blond kid around. I love dogs to death so I hate to say it but I'm still sort of partial to my sometimes aloof, sometimes cuddly meow mix. I never thought of myself as a cat person but I think Sean's rubbing off on me. Oh speaking of which, ever since he set eyes on the stray black kitten Nic found near her building, he's spoken about wanting a kitten. Who knoooows how Slinky would get along with one!

The lab is good. Blood from across the country is coming again tomorrow!! So excited! Unfortunately tomorrow is going to be a busy one cos I have to process and plate the blood, then I have to run a gel to confirm I have RNA from the experiments I did today, THEN I was hoping I could run the cDNA synthesis. I think I elicited help from most of the grad students in our lab and the Oglesbee lab today, haha. Ewwwww Bentley's licking his bum and he's making these disgusting slurpy noises!!! GROSS

Tomorrow is Thursday, which means it's one day left of Sean working nights for the week. I tell ya, it ain't easy not seeing your housemate/boyfriend all week except when you wake up and see him sleeping. It is, however, hilarious when you hear him talking in his sleep.

Things Sean has said in his sleep so far this summer (omitted are the incoherent murmurings and occasional laughter):

"Clam."
"Hey Love, what's up?"
"I'd like a grilled cheese with note."
"The things are being loud".... My response: "What things?" ... his: "The... things.... things... (some garbled gibberish here)... My response: "Okay, WHAT things?".... his: "I don't know.... too tired."

However it /is/ nice to know that he does dream of me. :) ("Love" is our pet name for each other, so he must have been talking to me in his dream).

Oh yeah, it is definitely creepy walking the dog at night alone in the dark. Man, I can't wait til I have a backyard. What's even creepier are the deer that come out from the woods behind the development, and walk around like they own the place, with absolutely no fear whatsoever. They were out and about one evening when Bentley and I went to go for a walk.... completely unconcerned that there was a human with a large dog maybe 300 feet away.

I decided I want to try going on a cruise. Not a long one, just one for the weekend. Just to see how the cruise thing is.... I've heard mixed reviews. From people's experience it seems as though you either love it or hate it. There are pros and cons aplenty. I would like to try it for myself... and the weekend rates aren't even all that bad. Of course you need to add on airfare and stuff, but sometimes you can get good deals. So all you'd really need to pay for would be the cruise and airfare of course, drinks, and any shit you buy and anything you end up doing as an "excursion". Unfortunately for all this, Sean doesn't really have any disposable income and I really don't either (although I bet if I wheedled a bit I could get some from the Mommy Fund). Oh well..... someday we'll go on vacation again. Not in the next year though because I start clinics, and then once I graduate God knows what is going to happen. By that time our next vacation may be our honeymoon.

Lalala.... hmmmm, I think that's really it for now. Oh yeah, Erin comes and visits on Aug 17!!! I'm SO friggin excited! :) I have no idea what we're going to DO, but who cares, she's coming. I want to take her to the dog park so she can see how much fun the dogs have, and then she can buy her own piece of land and make her own dog park for Fitzy. *nods*

Okay I think I'm gonna wrap it up. Sudoku is calling, and so is my bed.
