Happy Valentine's Snow Day!

Feb 14, 2007 10:50

Yeah that's right. You heard me. Columbus got itself a snow day by dumping probably 4 more inches of snow on top of 5-6 inches already, overnight. Not only did we get out early yesterday (1:30 pm), but we woke up and checked the OSU website, and lo and behold, they cancelled us. We will have to make up all the classes we missed today (fortunately only 4), but it's all good. Today is a snow day, Valentine's Day, and a re-charge day. I'll be doing minimal to no work, and most likely going to not shower and just spend the day lazying in my pj's. TV time, movie time, possibly some video game time, you name it. The day is mine.

And of course, I'm going to make a nice dinner for one. While I'd rather be eating dinner with my boyfriend, I'll just wait til next V-day for that. Luckily, it's 4 weeks to the day that I get to come home and see him again, and 3 months and change until he graduates and moves out here fo' good! YEY!

So since I have nothing better to do (well, maybe I sort of do, but not really), I'm going to blog for a very long time.

Let's see. This is what it looks like outside:

front yard (my new car, covered in snow, is to the right of the huge 5 foot snowman my neighbors made)

another front yard shot (I want to take a pic of the front of the snowman but I'm in my pjs and I'm not going outside until later so I can clean off my car)

A shot of the beautiful iris and tulip bouquet I got from Sean for Vday (the tulips were really droopy at first, and I was worried.... but overnight, they perked up in no time!)

And who would I be if I didn't shameless expose you to pictures of my cat.

He's the best. Right now he's parked himself on the top of my couch, taking in the sights from the window. This afternoon I would imagine he's going to spend it sleeping, as usual, but maybe I can coax him out for some playtime.

So yeah. Let's see...things that have been going on. Well, this past weekend I was able to fly out for the weekend and completely surprise Sean for his birthday/Vday gift. I got to the airport on Friday night and OF COURSE once we got on the plane, we were delayed. Luckily, with some quick thinking from my parents, we "stalled" him and got him to stay up (we told him my parents were dropping off his bday gift from them at his house after they left the City at 10). They picked me up (I landed at like 920) and we went to his house. I got in the car trunk (fyi, it's an SUV) and when they got there, they called him to have him come outside. My dad opened the trunk and voila! It was really funny.

Saturday, I went to Panera and the Walt Whitman mall with my mom. I got to give blood there too, but 1) a creepy middle aged guy hit on me, and 2) I have a nice hematoma underneath my skin. But it was nice to get out and shop a bit. Sean came over after work and I gave him his gifts. Then we ate at Curry Club for dinner and actually got to sit in the little boxcar section of the restaurant, which was neat (but a tad crooked). Came home, had double chocolate Carvel cake for his birthday, and then watched Eddie Murphy's "Delirious" on DVD.

Sunday we got up late, had breakfast, and watched Cars on DVD. Then we pretty much did nothing until I had to go. My plane ride home was noneventful, which was nice for once.

I was supposed to meet with Stefan this week to talk about my poster for Research Day, and about applying for a summer research project fund.... but due to the storm that slammed us yesterday, we postponed it til next Tuesday. Thats fine with me because I really don't want to think about putting together and talking about a research poster in front of professors and clamming up and making a complete fool of myself. While I am sort of contemplating doing clinical research later (one of the 34873298427923 things I'm interested in post-graduation), right now I just want to get through the rest of second year.

I'm really liking LJ's autosave draft thingie. It autosaves pretty much every minute and I don't have to ever worry about LJ eating an entry, like it used to (I would end up typing my entries in a Notepad file and then copying it and pasting it into the LJ form. Sigh).

Anyway, the rest of the week, which had been busy from the start, is sort of looking a bit....well, not busy. Tomorrow I have a meeting to go to for volunteering at the MVC, and that's pretty much all I have to do after school besides the gym. Next week all I have to do is meet with Stefan, and Friday we have off because of the MVC. Saturday I have to go there with Nicole and Phil, and help out, and volunteer at my one lecture (I forgot what I even signed up for, but it was interesting, I swear).

I can't believe how fast this quarter is going. Already it's almost over. 30 days from now and it'll be done, we'll be emerging from our last final, jubilant and tired. And then spring quarter starts, and then soon Sean will be out here.

Unfortunately, the problem of the dog and the apartment remains. Since we can't have a large dog, we either have to 1) move to another apt, 2) get a smaller dog, or 3) forgo a dog, and get a kitten. I would have much rather stayed in this apartment and got a large dog, but of course that doesn't seem to be the way things are going to go. So we'll have to see about apartments that will take dogs, will have room for a grill, and have washer and dryer hookups (though the last thing is sort of optional, but I'd really rather bring them than sell them). Nicole and Phil's condos sometimes go for rent (and they allow large dogs) so I am going to see how much the rent is on those. And then if we lived closer to them, Nicole and I would definitely flunk out of school because we'd get nothing done and spend all the time being dumb and playing with our dogs together.

There's not much more that's going on, and I really do sort of think I should be a little productive and wash up and clean off my car... so I'll leave you with the promised headlines.

More proof that children are evil. Some people think 10 years in prison is a bit harsh. I say, ask the FBI what they think about people who abuse animals and what it correlates to.

Have no fear! The dolphins are here!

Not really a headliner but a cool picture of the United States map with the interstates done in subway map fashion.

Hold onto your hats: James the English Springer Spaniel has been crowned Best in Show at Westminster!

Uh... I know this has been beaten to death (no pun intended), but I just think it's sort of bizarre. Anna Nicole Smith's body is still being held in a refrigerator while people argue over extracting DNA from it for a paternity test for her daughter Dannielynn. The medical examiner reminded everyone that yes, a corpse is a corpse and things will start to uh, not look so good after a week or so, but no one seems to be listening.

Wild thing, you make my heart sing. Apparently around this time of year, people aren't the only ones to feel amorous. Zoos have been setting up special programs for couples that involve a romantic evening for two---- champagne, candlelit dinners and chocolate covered strawberries, along with learning about fun facts on how animals "do" it. I.... I'm not sure quite what to say about this one.

slinky, news, vet school, daily stuff
