About my anime nerdiness

Mar 02, 2011 16:59

Heh, not anything clever to say really.
Thought I would still update. I have been super busy at school (reading for the exams at the moment too). So, my no-life aka. teh Internet-avatar has been pretty quiet for some time. Yet, I have found here and there a bit time to carry out this urge of mine to watch some of the anime series I have wanted.

Still haven't found any so good I would compare it to my ever-favorites (Monster, Cowboy Bebop, Gankutsuou, NANA, Kaiji, Mushishi, Mononoke Hime, Mononoke, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, to name a few) Those have flaws of their own too, of course, but they are... just too great and awesome not to mention and ESPECIALLY, the diamonds of the genres they represent.

As you can see, I love different genres, but if I would say a most common factor to all those it would be probably... TEH dramah. Uh-oh. Or, at least, a good balance between drama and comedy.

I'm going to present some of my toughts about these series. (YES, just thoughts. This means you can have any opinion you want, be it a totally different or the same to me; of course you have the right to say it but I'm not here for the fight so let me have my own head. Thanks & peace & love, haha. I see too much rage between anime-ists. ;D) So far, I have been watching much rubbish and a bit not-so-rubbish. But you know, rubbish can be entertaining too!

~Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku: The Legend of Koizumi~
Words can't describe this. You must experience it yourself. It's... something unbelivable only Japanese can do. They MUST animate more of the manga. It's so ridiculous and weird and awesome it makes it epic.

~Gosick~
I heard this is a mystery/detective anime and became interested. Now, seen 8 episodes, I'm disappointed in mysteries themselves (they are solved too easily, and have a bit plot holes here and there) but, instead, more intrigued by characters, their interaction and beautiful art. Though, I don't like the design of the two main characters all that much... a bit too "cute" for me. Plus, Victorique's tsundere nature is annoying at times. I'm not a big fan of tsundere girls. Or boys. I heard the series is based on a novel which might be better (probably is).

~Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto~ (On-going series)
My thoughts about first episode:
- The main boys have the same voice actors as Code Geass's Lelouch (Lelouch = pretty dark, justifying, intelligent, scheming personality) and Ouran High School Host Club's Tamaki (Tamaki = naive, airhead, over-caring, funny), which makes me highly amused! Somehow the thought of them talking together makes this very funny even when it's not supposed to be!
- I like the art style, great animation quality too.
- GALACTIC PRETTY BOY? Did I read right?! -> GALACTIC PRETTY BOY? *facepalm* -> GALACTIC PRETTY BOY? AWESOME -> GALACTIC PRETTY BOY? LOL
- Mecha-transformation á la Sailor Moon style with a boy (or, a bishounen, as he says so himself!) is extremely hilarious!
- Much implications to the plot and future events which remains uncovered (so far). I like it when they don't pamper the viewer too much with every explanation right from the start. :)
- Something big and somewhat complicated going on.
- One of the best introduction (as in, 1st episodes of a series) episodes I have ever watched. Meaning how everything progresses smoothly and pretty fast.
- School setting is to be expected.
- I smell a love triangle already.

I'm definitely going to watch this, be it for the laughs or whattanot! xD

// Edit; later on, 19 episodes later: (a little spoilers)
The show proved to be very different from what I expected - from 1st episode and plot summary I was going to swear the show would be like a Code Geass + Sailor Moon Combo; but the plot took a different route and now it's most like a Revolutionary Girl Utena + mechas + Deathnote art style Combo. If you have watched any Utena, you know there is a couple of relevant things to mention:
- A challenge/fight repetition for (almost) every episode. As for Star Driver; yes.
- A transformation clip for (almost) every episode. As for Star Driver; yes.
- Lots of drama about relationships, love triangles, squares, etc. As for Star Driver; yes.
- Pulling a saber out of yourself/another person. As for Star Driver; yes. (Haha)
- A secret school organization. As for Star Driver; yes.
- To expect main character always wins. As for Star Driver; yes.
- "Mindfuck" ending. Not yet confirmed since the series is airing but somehow I'm secretly asuming this! +_o' Nah, surely it won't be but it's nice to speculate. I don't know if I would like it or not... In Utena the Whut?-ending was somehow pretty properly made, though! (Speaking of which, the Utena movie... is something I will never forget.)

Still, it's not that similar to Utena but gives off a similar vibe. I thought it would have a super serious plot but it ended up like a semi-serious show, focusing much more on character relationships than mecha fights (they are like a joke almost every time, really). That is actually perfectly fine by me. Despite all the repetition, I'm highly enjoying it, it's very entertaining in all of it's ridiculousness. I have noticed how everyone is bashing the series, which I can kind of understand if you're waiting for something like CG's strategic mecha fights or super refined, "keikaku doori" plans uncovering. Uh, no. Rainbow-colored mechas and much revelations, yes, but no "keikaku doori".
To sum up: yeah, silly, FABULOUS series. With a beautiful soundtrack and pretty art.

~Kore wa Zombie desu ka?~
Errrh. Completely obvious harem-anime, with all the clichees, targeted to males, but somehow I'm watching this. The main male protagonist's transformation to a magical "girl" is... awesome. Completely ridiculous!
// Edit; later on, 9 episodes later:
This is getting... boring.

~School days~
Finished this. Despite the art style (too moe) I managed to go with the story pretty well. I wonder if I have ever, ever hated a main character of a show that much, haha! Still, I liked it being kind of different from what I usually watch. Very... ugly, wretched, dramatic story. The ending is... interesting.

//NOTE// If anyone wants to recommend a good mystery/drama anime, I'd be than pleased! //NOTE//
