COOL IF YOU DON'T TRY
There's no need to be on trend 24 hours a day. You have to be natural, not fake. That's what the new it-girl, or even better, the new Sarah Jessica Parker, explains to us. With an enviable wardrobe and a trendsetter style. Here, she gives us a few tips for an undefeatable look. For example, a mix of key-pieces of this season (she's wearing them for us here) and classics that she may have in her wadrobe already.
1. They say you're a trendsetter, the new Sarah Jessica Parker: what does it mean?
Be able to inspire other people, let them copy you.
2. Not easy. Did you manage to do it?
Let's talk about it, but I know celebrities who succeeded.
3. For example?
I am crazy for Chloe Sevigny: she has an unpredictable, experimental style. Audrey Hepburn was like this, in the past, with her black sheath dress, classical and elegant: she really changed the rules.
4. What do you immediately look at in other women?
If they're dressed with "nonchalance". There's nothing worse than women trying to be cool at any cost. There's a test: look at how they're wearing a difficult piece, for example an asymmetrical Balmain jacket; there you go, if they're at ease with a piece like that, then they have style.
5. What's the least sexy thing a woman can wear?
Anything that doesn't work on her. Or dresses that are way too thight and show the signs of your underwear: I think they're horrible. An exposed thong isn't sexy either. And I don't like women who wear something just because it's trendy.
6. Do you collect anything? Do you have any hobbies?
Shoes, shoes, shoes. I have pairs by Alaia and Proenza Schouler, the best. And I love Prada shoes. The combat boots I'm wearing right now are by Miuccia: I wear them when I'm travelling, you can easily take them off. Oh and I also like Margiela shoes, the ones for men, but without laces.
7. Let's move on to jeans: which one do you like and how do you wear them?
I like them only if they're stretch and in a soft fabric. I like them better in black, because with a silk jacket and a pair of long earrings they become classy and they're perfect for the evening. By day, I wear them with a girly top by Chloé or Chanel, or with a bon-ton losenge pattern sweater.
8. What there must be in a wadrobe that could make Sarah Jessica Parker jealous?
A smoking jeacket, black skinny jeans, black pumps by Vuitton, that always work, comfy t-shirts and a wristwatch with a golden watchstrap: it's chic by night. Also, very high platform heels can't miss; I call them "bitchy" and they're definitely sexy.
9. Do you follow a fashion blog or site?
I visit Style.com!
10. What do you wear for the red-carpet?
Every gala event is a chance to play a distinctive role. I like to be a porcelain doll one time, as I did at the Met Ball back in 2009, where I wore a Vuitton dress; and I like to be like a Greek goddess, another time. I usually choose a complete look, hair and make-up included.
11. What do you always take with you when you travel?
My iPhone: I use it to listen to music and take pictures. My Kindle, but right now I'm reading a real book: "The Grand Design" by the physicist Stephen Hawking.
12. What do you wear if you want to be sexy for a man?
Men find sexy things that we won't even take into consideration. But a little black dress, a thight one that I would never wear to go out with my friends, always works.
13. You would never go out without...
Wallet, keys, phone. And I never forget to put on some lipgloss.
14. What do you wear for a party?
I could wear leather leggings with an oversized cardigan by Marc Jacobs, and under it, a sexy bra just barely exposed. Pair the whole thing with subtle jewels, and laced-up ankle-boots by Alaia. I like the mix between very womanly clothes and extra-large pieces.
15. Would you care to give us a few unusual adresses to make some shopping?
If I'm in New York and I look for something special, I go at the outles of new and vintage stuff, they're called consignement shops. My favorites are Fisch for the Hip at Chelsea and Ina.
