[Picspam] Seven Reasons to watch Spartacus: Blood and Sand
Spartacus: Blood and Sand is definitely my favorite discovery of 2010, tv-wise. These are just a few reasons you SHOULD TOTALLY START WATCHING THIS SHOW NOW. The first season has just ended, and it's only thirteen episodes. The second season has been delayed because of Andy (the main actor) being sick ;__; I really hope he'll get better soon.
WARNINGS: this should be totally spoiler-free (contains images until 1x13 but I've chosen non-spoilery ones ;]), contains some nudity, blood and some really bad English (I'm sleepy XD)
07 → the effects
First time I saw an episode of Spartacus: Blood and Sand I thought it was something like "300 meets Gladiator". I'm sure they've taken a lot of inspiration from 300 - there's a feeling of graphic novel here and there, especially with the special effects which are clearly not used to make everything feel real, but mostly "graphic". Lots of flying heads, and arms, and legs, but you'll soon realised they're so *tacky* because they're supposed to look like that XD Also, when switching from one scene to another they've used some really nice effects! They don't make a show watchable, of course, but more enjoyable... why not?
06 → the fights
The show is all about gladiators fighting themselves in the arena, and I must say the fights, the challenges, are the most exciting parts! Some epic fights take place throughout the season and they sure make you feel sick and excited at the same time!
05 → the general awesomness
There are A LOT of amazing characters in this show: whether you like them or not (there are quite a few super-meaning figures) you cannot not aknowledge their awesomness! Along with the characters, there are also a few interesting relationships (friends, brothers, lovers) - some of them made me cry and smile and annoyed too XD So, yeah... characters dynamics are definitely a big part of Spartacus!
04 → fierce bitches
Lucretia and Illythia... fierce bitches ALL the way. They're mean, and manipulative, generally unpleasant, but they're reckless and they would do anything to get what they want. Watching them tearing each other's life apart was... well, interesting. They're the strongest female figures in the show and they add a nice touch the to otherwise all-male cast. Plus, they wear awesome dresses and rock amazing hairstyles!
03 → hot (and frequently naked) men
YES! Let's be superficial... hot and naked men. I don't know how's television in your country, but here in Italy you can turn on your TV and you'll see a naked woman in at least half of the current programs/shows. Any excuse is a fantastic excuse to show us a nice ass, or fantastic (fake?) breasts and so on and so on and so on. Having a show who doesn't make any difference between male and female nudity was a nice change for me, and everything felt just... *right*, you know? Well, this and the fact that these are all gorgeous men, LOL XD Who can refuse this much eyecandy?
02 → the friendship
Spartacus and Varro: WOW. They made me cry and laugh, and I just love their friendship. They would help each other no matter what, and they're always ready to stand up for each other. I think the awesomness of their friendship is made stronger because they're slaves, and they are expected to fight each other if they're commanded to, so... really, they're my second favorite thing of this season.
01 → spartacus
He's the main character and my favorite one as well. HE'S JUST AMAZING. Despite everything he's gone through he's determined to do everything he can to get Sura back. He has some really strong values and even if he's a slave he treats everyone with respect, and he expects that other people do the same with him. He's loyal, he would do anything for friend, for the people he loves, and he generally stands up for everything that's right and kind. Plus, he's hot.
