My living room is over the carport or seven steps up from the front door. I can't leave the door open because the cats will get out. So every time a Harry Potter knocks on the front door, I have to run downstairs to open the door or I have to sit outside in the cold, waiting for a bunch of skeletons to come by. In our neighborhood, there may be as long as fifteen minutes between bunches. My usual method of coping has been to turn off all the lights in the front of the house and hide out in my office (second floor, rear).
For some reason, this year I got the Halloween spirit. I made a sign that said, in glittery letters on a black background, "Dear Ghosts, Goblins, and Fairy Princesses, Take One," and attached it to a box. I emptied two bags of mini-Nestle's bars into the box. I put the box out at 5:00 when some of the younger monsters were out on the block, then I checked it a couple of times during the next two hours. The candy bars disappeared gradually, until I finally ate the last one at 7:30 p.m.
This may sound pretty damn tame, but it made me feel good. FanSee

I'm impressed that the kids honoured your note. I remember one year watching an 'older' child run up to someone's house and dump the enitre bowl into his bag. And i LOVE the front of your house. It's so pretty :)
