Harry Potter

I am not finished reading Harry Potter. I may be the only person on the planet that picked the book up on Saturday with the full intention that I wasn't going to finish reading the book in a weekend. I don't even think a long weekend would have seen the completed book in my hands. I plan to take all week to read it. I also plan to not skim pages of a children's book. Reading really isn't, or rather shouldn't be, a game. I feel like books, especially books that ten-year-olds could read in two days, should be savored. The book shouldn't yield competition, like ooo I read it in nine hours, I read it in an afternoon, etc. Did you read every word? Or did you skip the half-assed description? I wonder these things. So after reading the nine millionth post "I finished reading Harry Potter" badge of honor, I'm more than fed up with it. Not that you shouldn't be proud. I think you should. But for me, 784 pages of a children's novel where the most difficult vocabulary word is galvanized (whip out the dictionary for that one) is just not an accomplishment. Really, reading a book isn't an accomplishment for me. But if you feel compelled to tout your reading abilities, all nine hundred of my livejournal, facebook, myspace buddies, by all means go ahead. I will be compelled to respond.
