I was certain there was a bomb in Rachel's car after they had the Let's Meet and Talk in Seekrit At This Place Way Out in the Boondocks. That whole plotline -- my broken-hearted slasher issues with it aside -- was just too rushed and seemed out of place. Going from they're friendly again in the Matt episode to the whole hospital scene last week to they've been seekritly fucking this whole time to she's pregnant and certain it's Danny's to and she's telling Stan ... and now we're at the airport and ready to completely disassemble their (I originally typed "our": paging Dr. Freud) lives in Hawaii and go back to Jersey just didn't seem organic to me.
Certainly, it's ALL DRAMATIC what with the seekrit fucking and the OMG I'm pregnant and the our family is back together, but it's sort of out of left field -- and I'm not really pleased about what it says about Rachel as a woman (an actual person woman, not a Plot Device). For example, what's her job? What's she going to do back in Jersey? How did she pay for three last-minute tickets from Hawaii? (Cause those mothers ain't cheap even with advance purchase.) And it makes me like Danny less that he's seemingly forgot that clearly things were really wrong between him and Rachel in the first place that they got divorced -- and all those custody issue screaming fights in the first few episodes mean it wasn't a friendly divorce. And don't even get me started about what this must be from Grace's perspective.
... ahem.
I may have a few issues. :)
Steve looked very pretty indeed in in his tight black ninja-wear. I shall cling to that until September.
See, the infidelity does not bug me at all. It's just so human. And I don't expect my canon to ever follow my slashy desires ever. I expect beards! :D
I love the theory floating about that Wo Fat made Rachel lie to Danny about the baby and get on the plane RIGHT AWAY to get Danny away from Steve and their love and his troubles. lol.
Ah, see when the panned out on Rachel and Danny hugging I didn't think it ended there. I totally thought--OMG they are so ending up in bed tonight because obviously Stan is away.
NINJA STEVE ♥
OMG the last shot? The close up of the mugshots?! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Aha! That is why we're seeing it differently. Infidelity is almost always an automatic back-button hit for me. (I don't mind beards -- I think Catherine is AWESOME -- but that's clearly a different kind of relationship, and when kids are involved I just can't deal.)
I hadn't heard that theory, but I like it. That plotline with Stan's dirty business dealings could certainly have been a way for Wo Fat to get to Rachel. Distracting Danny does seem to be a logical part of the Wo Fat Evil Plan of Evil -- esp. since there were clearly separate strands of the Evil Plan of Evil to take out Kono and Chin.
Mostly I was glad that if Rachel and Grace are in Jersey during all the DRAMA they're more likely to be safe and Gracie can come back when everything's resolved without a hair on her adorable little head being harmed.
In other news, as soon as the DVDs come out I'm making elements come over and drink tropical drinks out of my Authentic Hawaiian Kitsch Store Tiki Mugs and marathon the hell out of the show and you should come too.
I'm not a big fan of infidelity or anything, but I just expect it to happen and I can still like characters even though they have fucked up. I mean I still love Steve despite his questionable considerations of ethical behaviour and his ends justifies the means actions.
It's not even so much that they slept together (esp. with the whole Matt thing, which is obviously when this started) is the part that bugs me. Obvs they loved each other once -- and I bet Danny is GREAT in the sack -- but the whole "we ripped each other apart, oh never minds, we're back together again, lalala, back to Jersey" thing just didn't work for me, especially since so much of it was offscreen until this week.
(I own very few Specialized Kitchen Implements, but I have a blender. I think revisiting the season, squeeing over the slashy parts and then firmly inserting fingers in ears and singing LALALALA when we get to the end, by which time I shall be Well And Drunk, is the only logical call.)
I still did better than on Friday after the 2-hour series finale of Smallville, where I had pretty much been sobbing for the entire second hour and for most of the next day.
