Catchup Time Again...

Well, this is going to be fun. I've got half a week of LJ to catch up on now, because Tuesday I didn't dare have the computer on due to bad weather (which did manage to miss my side of 526 - the side of town on the other side of the highway got hit, but not my side), Wednesday I was out way too late seeing the Death Note live action movie dub, and last night I was fighting with MediaCoder as I was recoding .rmvb files to burn to DVDs for the anime club meeting tomorrow, plus I was also exhausted and brain fried from dealing with DVD recasing issues. Rah. So, here's random bits:

Death Note movie dub: I was disappointed by the behind the scenes stuff. The one they did with the first Naruto movie dub was far better. I wanted more footage of shooting the movie, not some American who's buddies with the director and played one of the FBI agents in the movie. I also wanted more footage of the making of the dub, such as any difficulties the voice actors had - how is it different dubbing live footage as opposed to animated footage? Plus, I wanted more than a two second clip of Alessandro Juliani. (g) At least we did get to see what Brad Swaile (Light) and Brian Drummond (Ryuk) look like. Finally, the most important question was unanswered: why is a Red Hot Chili Peppers song the end theme???

As for the actual movie, my group had seen it subbed already (yay, HK, and surprisingly, it had good subs), so we knew how it went. The dub was pretty good. It wasn't jarring to me to hear the anime dub voices coming out of real people - I was worried about that, at least in regards to L, since I'm used to seeing AJ in live action stuff. I swear that a lot of people at our showing were unfamiliar with DN, as they were laughing at stuff that wasn't funny to us, and surprised by stuff that wasn't really surprising. (shrugs) Meanwhile, we were teasing Aliya, who's cosplaying as L at AWA this year, about all of the sugary stuff L was eating, and asking if she would have stuff like donut kabobs as props. Plus, I'm still amazed by all of the paper in the Note that Light wastes (and I need to get good screencaps of the note, since I need to make one for myself for AWA, as I'm going to cosplay as Light). (g) Ryuk (and Rem, since they showed a preview for The Last Name) look great on the big screen.

Oh, as we spent hours chit-chatting after the movie, we saw folks going in for the midnight showing of Indiana Jones, including two Indy cosplayers. (huge grin)

So You Think You Can Dance: (giggles) There was some really good dancing, and it was good to see the guys from last season visiting (yay, Dom, Hok, and I think I saw Pasha there also). Of course, some previous visitors were unwelcome. Could someone put David aka Sex into a psych ward? I agree with Nigel that nothing about him is remotely sexy. Plus, if your mom is telling you that you're sexy, something's really wrong there. Also, please do not dance in just your tighty whities unless you have an amazing body (coughHiroyacoughKousukecough). If you do, please make sure you don't fall out and have to get covered up by the show. (g) Finally, I loved Mia's little slip when that hot Italian dancer was being critiqued. I don't think she thought he wouldn't be sexy here, just unsuccessful. (g) He was smoking hot, but just not good enough, sadly. I did love both ballroom pairs that were seriously highlighted, the guy that danced to the spoken word piece, and the 45 year old Russian woman who had dumped her rich husband so that she could actually be happy. You go. (g)

Bleach: I heart Kubo Tite. If I could go to San Diego Comic Con, I would in an instant, for the Vizard origin story is full of awesomeness. Plus, it's not a mindfuck like the current Naruto chapters. (g) (starts to look at LJ while waiting for R&G blogs to load) (cries) Kubo's going to Comic Con, and Seki Toshihiko's going to AX????? Sanzo, Iruka, Kaien/Aaroniero (hence why I just saw this on soul_society)... (cries again)

Magiranger: is it wrong that, as I'm finally finishing the series by watching it at lunch (I'm up to 40 now), that I can see easily see Wyvern/Vancuria (or Nai and Mare)? Also, angst!Tsubasa in Stages 37-38 = much love. Man, Hiroya can ACT. Actually, rewatching older episodes as DVD tests really shows me how much the cast grew in a year. It really shows when Hikaru is first introduced - he feels stiff next to the rest of the characters (which does work when you consider his position). Houka!Kai is also love - I swear, hers/his mannerisms reminds me of Atsushi's Inazuma character.

RUN&GUN: I figured out that Yuya's posting pics of stuff he saw in NYC, but where there did he see this freaky Michael Jackson window???? Speaking of Yuya, I can't wait until YGO! 5D's 8 is subbed, in any form. Underpants!Yuusei. OK, the reason he's in his undies isn't good, from what I hear, but from what people who saw the raw say, Yuya's amazing.

Ooh, Ryuji saw TsudaKen and Yuzawa-san! Yay, AirMyu cast reunion! (g) (Yay too that evidently a combination of Google and Eigo-Navi seem to give me a decent idea of what the boys are saying, although I'm not sure what he said about R&G in particular - anyone? (g)). Also, Ryuji gives us some pecs, but the angle almost makes them look like man-boobs. Don't take pics like that, Ryuji, please.

Kousuke - I want his tech. That's all. I have tech envy. Also, did he talk about pop-ya?

Akira - even a combination of online translators can't help with understanding here. This makes me sad. :^( (It's not a request for translation, mind you, just a note.)

OK, I'm going to quickly watch the latest YGO!:TAS episode, then finish burning the end of Magi and start making a compilation of the Magi specials/movies, Chou Ninja Tai Inazuma OVAs, and some videos from YouTube that show how to do the Hare Hare Yukai dance (since the club is going to try to learn it - maybe I can convince them to do the Magi dance as well (innocent look)). I'll catch up with personal replies this weekend. :^(
