ARGH!!!!!!! What kami decided that I should be afflicted with a weather-front-induced migraine AND a dead computer power supply IN THE SAME WEEK?????? Oy. The migraine's finally really easing up now as the front moves on, and I did catch it early enough that the misery was tolerable, but it was still not fun. As for the 'puter, I had problems booting it up after a full shutdown once last week, so the death didn't catch me totally by surprise. However, having to try to troubleshoot it while under the full influence of the migraine because my aunt needed to check on something paycheck-related was hell. Then, I had to wait a few days until my own payday to buy a new power supply. Do you know how much it sucks to be offline and a) have people you need to reply to (and no time at work to do so), b) have the latest fansubs/scanlations to download, c) have the entirety of One Piece to read, and d) FINALLY have the idea of how to properly execute the next Heroes/Bleach crossover story (the Chad v. Jessica one) just in time to be able to use it for the Google Docs Tech Trek quest (yes, I know it's not just Google Docs, but I have a Google account already, so I'm using that) and be utterly denied the ability to do any of the above???? (twitches) Plus, I ended up having to swap out floppy drives (thank all that's holy that I remembered that my mainboard is messed up and that the floppy connector is backwards), had to reattach the antenna for my wireless card, and clean out as best as I could (until we bring some compressed air home from work) all of the dust bunnies in the case. Joy. (sighs) It takes forever to catch up with almost a week's worth of web surfing and email, hence why I'm still up when I have a librarian's anime club meeting this afternoon.
So, trying to catch up on some memes from
dragonsinger:
Meme #1:If you comment on this post, I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along. She picked "andy zax atobe keigo hiei pulltab to can kurama pmeb super milk-chan". (giggles) Hiei and Kurama are both characters in Yu Yu Hakusho - Hiei is a fire demon (although his mother was an Koorime (ice demon), which caused him to be exiled from her people as a baby), a master swordsman, master of the Jagan (evil eye), thief, and a snarky bastard. Kurama, Hiei's sometime partner in crime, is actually a youko (fox demon) who, to avoid true death, forced his soul in an unborn human child. He gained humanity instead, and turned out to be a fairly nice guy. He's also a master thief and a plant manipulator, and the requisite pretty boy of the show. You can guess my favorite pairing for YYH. (g)
PMEB = Paul McGann Estrogen Brigade, although that's changing to Pretty Much Everything Brigade lately. Paul is the 8th Doctor, the one in the 90's tv movie. I lurk there. He's also in the Horatio Hornblowers with Ioan Gruffudd, playing Lt. Bush, although my silly favorite part of his is the fop in the Disney version of The 3 Musketeers, the one with Tim Curry, Charlie Sheen, and Kiefer Sutherland. "D'Artagnan!!!!" Heh.
Super Milk-Chan = a totally cracktastic comedy anime. Adult Swim has shown it during both action and comedy blocks. Surprisingly, the dub they show kept in all of the Japanese cultural references. Milk-chan is an adorable little girl, who's also a self-absorbed egomaniac.
Speaking of egomaniacs, because you will be awed by his prowess (just ask him - that's his catchphrase, which was even set to music in the musicals), Atobe Keigo is the buchou (captain) of the Hyoutei tennis team in Prince of Tennis. This means he's the best of 100 some odd players, as that's how big the Hyoutei club is. Only the best of the best get to be regulars - if you lose, unless it's to another team that's well-acknowledged to be equally as good (like Seigaku or Rikkai), you lose your spot. He's the best regular. He's also one of the most popular characters, even though he's a filthy rich egomaniac, as he can back up all of his words. His seiyuu is the incomparable Suwabe Junichi - I think I forced you to listen to some of the 2 cds of Atobe image songs I have, since Suwabe-san can sing really well. I have a picture of both character and actor on my desk. He's also part of Pulltab to Can, one of the many character vocal groups from the show (he's also in a few others, in fact). Pulltab gets special mention because they actually appeared AS A BOYBAND in a very special filler episode. This is yet another reason why AniPuri is flamingly gay, and I love it (the manga version is sane). Pulltab also sings the 7th end theme for the anime, Wonderful Days. Anyways, the other seiyuu (and their TeniPuri characters) in Pulltab to Can are Morikubo Shoutarou (Kirihara Akaya), Toriume Kousuke (Sengoku Kiyosumi), Kusunoki Taiten (Sanada Genichirou), Kiuchi Hidenobu (Oshitari Yuushi), Suzuki Chihiro (Kamio Akira), and Moriyama Eiji (Ibu Shinji in AniPuri, Momoshiro Takeshi in TeniMyu, and Sanada Genichirou in CinePuri, thus pulling a trifecta of being in all three adaptations but as different characters).
Finally, Andy Zax. Andy was the Music Geek - the GOOD one - on Comedy Central's old gameshow, Beat the Geeks. Even if he wore cargo pants when he was a contestant on Greed, and even if he does actually like Yoko Ono's music, he is still truly a music geek. I have an 80's new wave compilation cd that he did the booklet for, and the commentary is priceless. Plus, he also has a killer sense of humor, so bonus points for that, and for dealing with his insane fangirls with humor and grace.
Meme #2: Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along. Well, since I only have three... (g) Actually, now that I think of it, two of those I've already recently explained. My cute one is the lolcat I created playing around for Tech Trek Quest 5, just shrunk down. I love lolcats. Yes, they are overused, but gosh darn it, they're so cute. About the only girly thing about me (okay, barring the fact that I wear makeup and lately have been wearing nail polish again) is that I'm a sucker for cuteness. So, when I saw that picture, the only text that work was that the cuteness must be feared, for it will take over the world - preferably using
Hello Kitty assault rifles. I have decided that those WILL be what my minions will use when I take over the world. (maniacal laughter) Of course, since it's a lolcat, one must use the cutesy net spelling versions of words.
As for my "angry" one, which is really more for when I'm in a Saiyuki mood, the sources for each pic is posted elsewhere here. Goku and Hakkai from Saiyuki are youkai (demons - well, Goku's considered a demon, although he really isn't, but that's a long story), who appear human by wearing power limiters. Both have taken off their limiters when needed to defeat the enemy, which is thankfully a rare occasion. When Goku's in his Seiten Taisei mode, he's literally a beserker who can only be stopped by divine forces, and who doesn't care who he fights. I love that shot of him grinning as he licks Kougaiji's blood off his claws. As for Hakkai... well, Goku himself decided that Hakkai's scary when he takes off his limiters. 'Nuff said. Hence the Hulk quote for the icon, as you really don't want to make either of them angry enough to force them to take off their limiters.
Finally, my default icon lies in my online persona's origins. Yes, Mindwarp has been a persona for storytelling, way back when I was in college, on the SUNY VAX BBS. We had collaborative stories going on, featuring our online characters. While the name came from my Mage: the Ascension character (a computer mage), my persona was a werewolf. Now, we had done a campaign for Werewolf: the Apocalypse where we played what everyone thought our tribe and auspices (birth moon phase, which determined a werewolf's role in their society) should be. Everyone agreed I was a Glass Walker (the city-born techno-tribe) Galliard (born under the gibbous moon, the singers/bards/artisans - which we found out is my actual phase, as we decide to look it up as well). So, the icon features a white/silver wolf, which is 'Warp's wolf form, plus two sets of glyphs from Werewolf. One glyph is a combination of the ones for Wyld/chaos and wisdom - Mindwarp. The other is homid (human-born werewolf), Glass Walker, and Galliard. In other words, basically, it's my name and what I am. (g)
