Ooh, before I drool over YGO!, I have two you know you're an Aqua Teen Hunger Force fan bits:
1) When you see a Foreigner greatest hits cd on the back counter at the Circ desk, waiting to be cased up in a security case, and think "Foreigner Belt!!!!" - and then check to see if all of the songs mentioned in that episode of ATHF are on the cd (they were).
2) When you're peeved that you didn't think to turn on the closed captioning during last Sunday's episode with all of the villians to see if they spelled "teh suck" (as in "The Plutonians are teh suck.") correctly. OK, that might be more a general Adult Swim fan thing, as that comes from the AS boards, and was used on some of the B&W cards (which I MISS, CN! Have them one more often than Thursdays! And when you are getting more YGO! eps, and why do you use the same music that NBC uses for their intro/outro bumpers for L&O:SVU for the YGO! bumpers? However, I will thank the AS crew for new Inuyasha eps, the FANTASTIC Wolf's Rain (any Werewolf: the Apocalypse fans, CHECK WR OUT!!!!), and the rest of the Saturday night lineup, plus the Williams Street stuff.).
OK, on to the drooling over episodes 199-201 (I'm in the middle of d/l'ing 202, and I'll start 203 shortly), with spoilers. Thank gods for Janime's site, and her in-depth summaries.
1) BAKURA!!!!!! Man, I love Yami no Bakura, especially shirtless Thief Bakura. He's so eeeeeeevil, in a delicious way. I can't wait to see episode 202, when he brings Atemu's dad's corpse into court. Heh. I wonder what will happen to Bakura Ryou, though, since Yugi-tachi and Shadi know that he's in the tomb as well, sans the Tomb Robber. He's currently passed out on some stairs after all, and he needs help.
2) I love the new opening. Overlap is one of my favorites of the themes, and some of the shots are amazing. My faves are the one of Priest Seto holding Kisara's body in front the BEWD tabet, with Kaiba Seto's face superimposed in front of it in agony as he gets that flashback; the shot of Kisara leading into the shot of the BEWD; the shot of DM and DMG with Mahaado and Mana in front of them; and any shot of any version of Bakura. I also love the shots in the ending when they flash from the AE versions of characters to the modern ones. Also, I love how they don't have to worry about spoiling people in Japan, since they figure that people have read the manga. The credits are nice honking spoilers for who certain people are that hadn't been revealed yet in the anime. Viewers already knew that Yami no Yugi was pharaoh, Seto was the high priest, and Yami no Bakura was a thief, but the origins of DM, DMG, and BEWD hadn't been given.
3) Seto, in any time. Well, that's a given, anyway, but... (g) It's sad how easily he's manipulated, though. EVERYONE knows that if you threaten Mokuba, Seto will do what you ask. You'll pay for it later, of course, but... I am surprised that he did take the Millennium Eye from Yami no Bakura. For that matter, I'm surpised Yami no Bakura offered it to him, but I can see that he needed some additional ammo to help lure Seto to Egypt, and the visions Seto's getting courtesy of the Eye will do that. As for the high priest version - GET RID OF THE HEADDRESS!!!!!!
4) Speaking of Kaiba-boy, how did he change into his Battle City gear from his white suit so fast? When and where did he do that???
5) Wow, Grandpa was taller back in the '60's! There's hope for Yugi! (g)
6) Speaking of Grandpa, I love his drooling over the god cards. Game geeks never change.
7) You know, does anyone know why Haga and Ryuuzaki stole the god cards?
8) For that matter, does anyone know how Yami no Bakura could still possess Bakura Ryou when the latter didn't have the ring? Yami no Yugi/Atemu can't do the same to Yugi.
9) Engrish alert - in the airport in the beginning of 201, one of the destinations is Washinton DC. (g)
10) Ep. 201 - Atemu has belly dancers! And even in Ancient Egypt, Grandpa (Shimon) is a perv - look at how he's watching the dancers. (g)
11) Mahaado. HOLY CRAP. (melts into puddle of goo) Damn, his voice! I generally like the dub voices, since I think they fit the dub personas, but they had better somehow capture the sexiness of Mahaado's voice when it comes time to dub these episodes.
12) Some people are obviously not wearing anything under their kilts (coughBakuracoughAtemucough), unless they had thongs back in ancient Egypt. (eg)
13) Is there some serious tension between Mahaado and Priest Seto or what? Man, the look between them when Priest Seto was chastising Mahaado on poor security - whoo.
14) OK, so I've finally heard it in Japanese, and they do call it the Millennium Torc. From how it sounds, I see why people were calling it the Millennium Tauk, but it's Torc.
15) Is it sad that most of the words in Japanese I know are from YGO! (sennen, mou hitori no boku, aibou, yami, hikari (I know that's a fan term), etc.)?
16) Malik! Hee.
Overall, I'm so digging this. It's sad I'll have to wait for years for a dub - I'm interested in seeing how THAT turns out.
OK, off to bed.
ever your servant,
Jennwarp
