Living in the South, I should not be surprised when the power companies are not as well prepared as they could be for winter weather. Our geinus Duke Power heard that a winter storm was headed our way so what do they do? They send hundreds of crews and trucks to neighboring states to help with their potential clean up. Then, we got slammed harder than any of the other states. Greeeaaatttt! I'm all for helping out the other guy but you've gotta help yourself and your own neighbors too.
Our power went off around 11:30pm on Thursday night...not long after I got out of a hot shower and off the internet chatting with Meredith. I was forced to go to my parents house (they didn't have power either). Fortunately, they have a gas stove so we were able to cook meals and use a kerosene heater to stay warm. The latest reports from the power company said that we could expect power by midnight Tuesday. To say I was unhappy was an understatement. I snapped this morning and called Duke Power's hotline to chew them out. Seems they were able to get the Wal-Marts, Targets, and the mall up and running but the nursing homes, hospitals, and individual homes were left unattended. I left "Chris" with a piece of my mind and he was really flustered trying to spout out all of their prewritten rhetoric. He kept repeating that we wouldn't get power until Tuesday and I ended up slamming down the phone.
Anyway, by a little past 6pm tonight the power blinked and then finally came on to stay. I can't tell you how happy I am to be back in my own home with my own things and my computer! And I must say that Min is thrilled to back in my waterbed. She's already passed out. Her little world was turned upside down for two days and now she's back and comfy.
Well, I'm gonna go now. Frosty the Snowman is on tv and I can actually see him in color tonight...wheeee!
Until later,
Ang...who is has a new appreciation for power ^_^
