I was originally going to post this to a certain thread, but my comment was too long even after I started abbreviating, and I realize that I can't very well mention spelling and grammar while using abbrevs.
Thank you girl, for finally expressing in detail what you and other people's problem is. Now I understand. I agree with some of you comments, and I think we could have avoided a lot of problems if the "old fogeys" expressed that before. I particularly don't have problem with the boys getting married (and, of course, if I'm thinking about the story you were thinking, it was a symbolic wedding, not an anachronism), but grammar, anachronism and characterization also bother me. And I think I'm also guilty for not expressing that before either. Maybe because I don't read all the fictions and I like the ones I'm reading.
e) there are anachronisms everywhere, like the Beatles using condoms
Condoms are not exactly anachronism. Unless they are using among them, not with girls, LOL. But there were condoms in the 60's
1. It's not a good idea to call people elitists whose opinions we don't like.
Yes, you're right. I just wished people were more open with their opinions and said what their problem is. Like you just did.
I just wished people were more open with their opinions and said what their problem is. I'm so glad you feel that way. If everyone felt that way I think jhp would be a much calmer place.
I thought condoms didn't become widespread even between men until the spread of AIDS?
I'm glad there's fewer anachronisms now. I will be spending more time in this comm over break, so it's good to know there's more good fics to read.
I had lots of reasons for not posting over there any longer, those you've mentioned and several others (including the fact I think it has become overshadowed by an anti-slasher or two). It became a very unpleasant place to be ... why frequent somewhere that's more of a negative than a positive? I've had to actually take Beatles slash down from my own personally-paid-for website that I host on my own servers because of this element.
I'm glad somebody started a new JP slash comm and hopefully will get it going (I never had the time to do my attempt at this and the person I handed it off to didn't do anything with it either). I joined.
I do feel that people shouldn't be overly criticized for posting fan fiction meant for fun. That said, I also believe that all writers owe it to the reading community to make their work as readable as they can. That includes having a beta. I've been writing for thirty years. I still have betas and editors.
I've had to actually take Beatles slash down from my own personally-paid-for website that I host on my own servers because of this element. That's a shame, you should never have to do that.
Are you ever putting up The Vampire John Lennon again?
Wow, I had no idea you've been writing so long. That's impressive.
Do you still write any beatle fics for your own amusement, or have you moved on?
#1 is why I left the comm. We've always had drama at JHP - heck I remember jkg_vader and I being involved in some, much as I generally hate it. That finally blew over - and then slowly the comm just became repeats of the same discussions we'd already had. There's nothing wrong with that per se - I mean, new people weren't privy to the older discussions so I guess it's natural. Though when I joined, I read nearly the entire archive first, but that was 2 years ago, so there's more stuff to wade through now.
Anyway - it was just same-old, so I read it less and then finally left. Though I check in with my other Beatle fic now and then. The fic I'm working on with jkg and forsome isn't slash anyway, so at this point it doesn't really involve JHP. It's our silly little Mary Sue.
Anyway - I'm kind of glad I'm out of it -I read some of the drama and I swear I only recognize 3 names from when I was in the comm, geminigirl and abromeds and you. I guess that makes me an old fogey too or something.
I figured you left because of that. What are you reading these days? And how's your mary sue going?
I actually only got into it the other day because someone involved sent me the link and was like "this is so bad it's hilarious, you have to check this out." With an invitation like that, how could I resist?
I believe fab4fic_lover was there under a different name, and salonia was probably there while you still were. Other than that...yeah, mostly new faces. Does JHP really have 700+ people now? Wow.
Thanks! I haven't read much fic these days to be honest!
Our Mary Sue is going well! We like to think of it as the Twilight of Beatle fics, only better written. :-) I don't know if it's bad, but we fully admit it's a Mary Sue, and even worse, a time-travel Mary Sue! It's been a fun project, actually! :-) I hope you enjoy it! (This is the one that's ours just to make sure we're talking about the same thing!) http://community.livejournal.com/yesitis_fic/
Salonia only joined right when I left. I wonder why JHP had such a surge in membership!?
f) I read fic on JHP because I love John & Paul & their relationship. That means I want to read about John and Paul, not giggly teenagers. I already know what giggly teenagers are like, I've been one. Again, I understand that that's the life experience a lot of our writers are working with. But I'm young too & I want to understand the Beatles from a more adult perspective, and it's hard to do that with some of these fics.
I’m still signed to this com, but I don’t even read the majority of the posts unless I recognize the user. If there would have been a new place to hand out, I’d rather join it. I don’t think that whatever we say or do could change the quality of fics or discussions here, because the new members have the right to post whatever they want as well as old ones.
I’m glad you brought this up, and I’m sure many people share your point of view :)

I just realized I never finished betaing your fic. I'm sorry! Will try to get to that over break, which is coming up in a few days.

It’s ok, I fixed the rest based on your corrections and then Forsomeone helped me to finish it. Your help and encouragement was priceless for me at that time. Thank you very much :)

Yes, you're right. But it is not an anachronism per se. But I would found weird if I find it being used in a fiction, that's for sure.

And because of the ugly atmosphere, I had a very short trip through Beatles slash. I doubt I'll write any again but I'll be around to read it.

I like your points about fanfic as well though.

Don't know, we'll have to ask some of the new people.
