Today

I’m sitting here at work, going back and forth between watching a stream of the Inaugural Events, and remembering back to the 8th grade.  I had to Interview someone about where they were and how they felt about a moment in history.  I interviewed a close family friend about his experiences in the Vietnam War.

Today as I sit here at work, I am thinking about where I was on the day we began the Gulf War, where I was on September 11th, where I was for the Second Gulf War, and where I am today and how I felt and feel about it.

I am happy to be alive to witness our first African American President.  I can’t help but think to the future, and the time when my children are asked to do a similar project as I was.  Part of me hopes that they ask about this day, so I can share my thoughts and feelings with them.  I would love for them to know about this day, and how important it is, but for them to look on it with eyes that truly see no difference between race, and sex.
