THE PINTEREST CHALLENGE

Aug 02, 2011 11:52

Like many people in the blogging world are aware, the darlings over at Young House Love put the challenge out to fellow Pinterest geeks everywhere to stop PINNING, and start DOING.

....*drum roll please*... Here is my whole blog post dedicated to my stairway gallery that i have been lusting/dreaming/thinking about for months. After MUCH blood, sweat, and tears; years of Skylar thinking I was looney for buying "another frame"; 18 months in an undecorated house; a good three months after I painted....the frames finally went up thanks in part to the Pinterest challenge declaration.
Mind you, this did not occur without a breakdown, an emergency call to Matthew, and an afternoon with him holding my hand, and half a package of Cashew Sandies - but the frames are all up. Observe:

**First off - The Inspiration: a.k.a. Pinterest* - here are the inspiration pics I found for how to make black and white work together on grey....

*The beginning of my attempt to recreate. Here is the start of my initial layout on the floor (after breakdown, before cookies) - it didn't stay like this, but it evolved as frames went up*

*I didn't get a pic of  the next step of cutting out newspaper to match the size/shape of all the frames, but here the pieces are as i started to put them up in the hallway*

*went through a bit more shuffling in this stage, but finally bucked up the courage to just start measuring nail positions, and going for it. Thank GOD for trusting a level, because i was convinced it was lying to me. Bottom to top*

**and FINALLY...TADA!!! (god i wish my camera lighting was better)**

LOOOOOK at how darling some of these turned out!! Didnt get a close up of the twine only frame, but it is filled with mini clothespins for hanging more pics! And then there is this little frame to hold all three niece/nephew pics (not stand-in engagement pics)!

My cell phone camera is crap, but seriously, the pop of white frames mixed with the black, on a neutral gray wall is so classy. I cannot believe this turned out *better than*  how i envisioned and how much i love it!! I still have a lot to do in terms of what is going in every frame. But since I added a contrasting piece of colored card stock (black and white) to each frame, I can slowly fill them in, and it will still look good.
Cannot WAIT to get photos/playbills/everything I want added in!!! Here's to your early 30's to finally getting shit put on walls. Next up, staining/painting those ugly oak banisters...
