[It's too bad that things have been So Srs since Guy arrived in the RP. Because the truth is he's been itching to do this for a while, but simply put! Everything was just too dangerous to allow him proper time to geek out ( Read more... )

Fonic energy? [arches an eyebrow at that. amazingly, he's never heard of it before.] If it's not too much trouble, I'd like to know more about it.

[OH WOULD YOU REALLY]

I'm not surprised you haven't heard of it, but sure. I'd love to tell you. In fact, thanks to holo deck I could even give you a live demonstration.

[smiles, intrigued] Could you really? You'll find me an eager listener! I'm the Doctor, by the way. I don't believe we've met...

Sure! Something tells me most people would only be interested in the fighting aspect, but I'd much rather talk about the technological.

And I'm Guy Cecil. Just 'The Doctor'?

Ahhh, usually they do... Not me though! Fighting's predictable--someone always gets hurt.

Yep, just the Doctor! Pleasure to meet you, Guy.

That's generally the idea, yeah.

[Doesn't exactly sound apologetic, but doesn't seem to mind your judgment either]

Good to meet you too, Doctor.

[frowns ever so slightly, but decides to let that go] So, fonic energy and technology! I'm interested in anything and everything you can tell me about it.

[well he IS wearing a sword at his hip, if that's any indication, brightens though]

I'll tell you what I can. I'm not any kind of scientist, but I have a pretty good understanding of the basics.

First of all, what you need to know is that fonons are basic particles of sound that can be found in everything... or at least, everything on Auldrant. There's also six naturally occurring elements of fonon; Dark, Earth, Wind, Water, Fire and Light.

[noticed the sword, but has met many who wield one, so it doesn't really faze him]

So...sound particles mixed with elementals?

Reply

minding_mirrors April 1 2009, 02:08:55 UTC
Not mixed with; as. It's fonons mixed with atoms that create everything in our world. Everything, from rocks to animals to humans, has a unique fonic frequency.

Normally, fonons only have harnessable power in naturally occurring foncrystals, which is what forms when a lot of the same type of fonon gather in one place for a while. But back in the Dawn Age, our ancestors created the Planet Storm.

[pause]

Do you know what memory particles are?

[nods occasionally, absorbing all this information like a sponge. he has a feeling this is merely icing on the cake.]

I know of many particles, but not a specific type for memory.

[Senses you are a Genius Doctor, as he's met a few of those, and as he is merely a Smart Guy doesn't worry much about losing you]

Memory particles form in the core of the planet, not as much is known about them, since the technology that uses them had been considered lost for a long time, so I'm afraid I can't tell you much other than that they're energy particles pulled from the planet's core.

The Planet Storm is a system that sends memory particles from the planet's core up through the crust and to the fon belt, a ring of foncrystals that circles our planet. In the fon belt, the memory particles combine with the first six fonons and create the seventh fonon. Then the Planet Storm carries the memory particles and fonons around the world, through the fon belt again, and then back into the core, eventually coming out again. It's like a never ending, invisible stream of energy, that distributes fonons throughout the atmosphere of our entire planet.

[the description of it reminded him of his research into ley lines many, many years ago. he didn't quite buy into it either, filing it under such things as magic, but even he couldn't deny that there was something to it all, some underlying truth to it. it certainly fascinated him, though. so he wasn't ready to write fonon energy off as some mystical force either, especially when he's never seen it properly.]

I see. So, how does it all work practically? You said it was similar to the electricity running everything here. I take it fonon energy can be harnessed much in the way solar power can?

Solar power? I've heard of the theory, but I don't know any instances of it being applied practically ( ... )

[smiles slowly the more he hears. he loves hearing about things like this; how humans in other universes have harnessed their native energy sources.]

And to think you can do all that with just fonon energy! Though I'm afraid I've never been to your world, so I can't picture any of those locations.

That's really just the start of it. Jade would be a better person to tell you about all of the uses of fonons. I really just tinker in fontech as a hobby. And in the Dawn Age even more incredible things were possible. The entire crust of our planet used to be held, suspended miles above the core, by spouts of memory particles powerfully enhanced by ancient fontech.

Not to mention what the discovery of the Seventh Fonon allowed... even the replication of human beings.

[shaking his head at that, like he has mixed feelings there]

If you'd like, I can probably build a decent example of some of these things on the Holodeck. Not to actual scale, of course. But if you're really interested in seeing some of the technology from my world.
