Today marks another change in my lifestyle. Hubby was promoted on Friday, and in his new position, he is back on "late shift" which is when the general population would refer to as graveyard. He has been extremely lucky so far in that he had a very short stint of that shift early in his career as a police officer; areas he was moved to didn't use him at that time. Now that he's near the end of his career, he ended up back on it because there are only 5 people in his position as Deputy Inspector, and being the new guy, that's his shift.
Funny how older couples wait till the kids are grown and gone so their time is their own, their nights are their own.... guess that is not to what life is going to be for me in the future for a bit. I like going out on Wednesday nights but I guess that will end. It would not be much fun to go out for a margarita or two or a couple long island ice teas if all he would be doing was coming along for the ride since he couldn't have a drink, too, since he's be reporting to work later. Besides the fact that he usually takes a nap before going in to work when working late shift... so homebound I will be.
Once again in my life, I am on my own. That's how it was when the kids were little and I always said that I basically raised them alone, but on his money. What's different now it that they are gone, so I will be all alone and lonely. All I can be happy about is the fact that it's a raise in pay and will increase his pension because of it and he's going to retire in three years so that's how long I have to be alone; three years. Don't be mistaken-- I am very proud of him and he could have always passed up the promotion, but we know it is a good step for his future plans, and good for earning a higher pension. But that doesn't cancel the fact that I am sad about how I will be spending the next three years. I guess I will have to keep hoping some of the other Deputy Inspectors retire sooner rather than later so he can move up in seniority and get back on days. (Oh, he also is back to working a weekend rotation, which he hasn't had to do in YEARS. Blech.)
It's going to be like two ships passing in the night. Just like before. At least before, my ship had passengers.
