I got some stuff done today. Not the samples I needed to get done though. I think the PI for that project is out for the week, so I will have to wait on asking him questions.

I did however get ahold of the instructor I needed to. I told him about a schedule conflict, and they said it would be ok. woohoo.

I found my QT sign LEDs Nab gave me. I looked at them wondering how I could play with them. Duh. I plugged them into my variable power supply and hooked up my 1960's volt meter.(the display is 9 little lamp tubes shaped like numbers, stacked infront of each other. its kinda slow, but really cool despite its size compared to my pocket meter that has more functions.)

Viola! Red LEDs in parallel. oddly they need more than 12v dc. 24v is what makes them the correct color. hmm. dunno. I think I have an idea for red Xmas lights... now to figure out where to put them for Xmas.

hmm... I cleaned more matt stripping and installed a wall on the drybox. Its getting closer and closer to the vacuum test phase. I still need to find some high vacuum grease and high vacuum cement. ... and a torque wrench. Ok and like a lot of other crap, but its ok, it will be worth it. (I think).

Oh yea I guess I re-massed the 5th sample that exploded yesterday. (Germanium doesnt go along with increasing temp by 2000-3000 C in a few seconds. It tends to pop apart or fly apart. I guess its not really exploding, but it sure looks that way)

The sucky part is, the higher content of germanium, the more likely the sample will scratch. Ok, so the sucky part is Ge costs $1.80 / gram. so... I threw $10 away on just one sample. (because it has the possibility of being contaminated, and most likely is alloyed a little, I cant reuse it.)
