i know you dont need a mac to get the mouse. I have a powerbook laptop already though. I am suggesting that, in general, the biggest complaints, not my own. I have a different list of complaints about macs, since I dont do games, nor have trouble releasing extra cash, for something that, just works. Time is money. Its cheaper to buy a mac and have it work, and have the ability to run all UNIX apps, and a lot of Linux apps, plus all the OSX apps, (AND Windows, if I really need to, I run an emulator that allows me to run AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop for modeling), then to buy a cheaper (cheaper parts too) windows machine, which takes more than 8 min to setup, and has periodical problems that I must screw with all the time. (when a new program doesnt work, because I dont have permissions setup right or whatever). I realize you could run freeBSD or whatever flavor you like, on a PC laptop, and get away from windows, but there are still hardware issues that must be dealt with.
Apple has a good idea. Make an OS that rocks. Its BSD, with a really nicely integrated GUI. with a lot of built in security options (like, I can disable root) . Then sell it on the hardware, that you have tailored your OS to fit. It just works. and you pay the extra few hundred bucks initialy, but it just works.
Btw, if you have not noticed, Apple has switched to Intel, and will soon be putting intel chips into their laptops. (which is all I really care about, since desktops require you to lose more time and mobility)
I dont want a mac to be different. No, I wanted a mac because I hated windows. You see, I used to be a PC technician and windows networking tech. I can fix it sure, but I dont want to have to fix it. ever. and if it breaks, apple replaces it for me, for free. I don't see any problems with that.
