I was originally going to do another artpost, but I figured 'why the hell not?' and did my writing challenge, too. I'll edit in the pic later, after I scan it in and colour. ^_~
Title: Kyurii and cake don't mix
Series: Original (Ki should recognize the characters, haha)
Theme: Cake!
Length: exactly 912 words
Genre: Humor/cute random fluff
Warnings: Un-beta'd... I churned it out in a little over an hour and a half. ^^;;
How long has it been...? The young lord wondered. It was over a month now since he last held her, since she asked him to completely rewrite her memories. It was over a month since she forgot that they were lovers, now thinking that they were orphaned siblings instead. Damien shook his head to clear it of the unpleasant thoughts. Life's just not fair. Deal with it. I promised her I'd get her a treat today. Let's do that instead of brooding.
His two hooves clopped quietly on the cobbles as he wandered the streets in his (mostly) human form, on the outskirts of the village. They had settled in the forest nearby some weeks ago, and the local businesses had come to know him. He made his way to the small bakery, his small wings rustling as a soft breeze blew through the back alley.
"Oy, is anyone free in there?" he called at the back door. Two faces appeared in the open window and smiled. He could hear the girls giggling as they scrambled down from stools. And then, promptly tackled by one of the aforementioned workers in a floury hug. "So what brings you here today?"
"I promised Merelan I'd bring her a treat today. Any cakes or anything you can spare?" His eyes were hopeful; anything sweet would probably do.
"Ooh! We have shortcakes today, don't we? Let's go find the one that didn't turn out quite right."
Before he could protest, he was dragged into the kitchen. He heard a ding! as the timer went off, and all the bakers crowded in. He heard a disappointed groan from one of the women as she discovered that her creation had been slightly burnt. Sure enough, one of the girls took the faulty cake and proceeded to decorate it anyway. He managed to obtain a stool to stand on while he watched her work. Upon completion, he took his prize and put it on a box by the back door, trusting the employees to make sure that no one touched it, and ran off to the woods.
When he found their little thicket, he immediately dove inside to find his 'sister'. "Merelan~ Where are you?" Leaves rustled as he heard her move, and made his way to the sound. "Mer-"
He was cut off as she, in her more equine form, leapt out of a pile of leaves and sat her paws on him, cloven hooves pawing playfully at his shoulders as she emitted a soft kyuu. He could hear her thoughts as she directed them at him.
"Hey! Gerroff! Do you want your treat or not?" he asked, picking leaves out of his hair. "Come on, we need you on two legs, not four. People look at us funny when we're like that."
She pouted as best she could in her current form and changed herself immediately, wanting her promised treat more than playtime. "Where're we going?"
"Oh, you'll see," He took her hand and guided her toward the village, "you'll know when we get there."
He covered her eyes as they neared the bakery, not wanting her to see his little surprise, but that didn't stop her nose from working. "I smell something sweet!" she declared.
He chuckled. "What treat for you isn't sweet? Guess what it is!" She shook her head, unable to identify it from scent. When he allowed her to see again, he was nearly knocked over again by her happy hug.
"It's a cake! With strawberries! Thank you~!!"
He snatched the cake from the box as she reached to attack it, waggling a disapproving finger. "We can't have it just yet. We have to work to pay it off first, then you can destroy it." He moved to put his hand on her shoulder, only to meet air, and the weight was liberated from his other hand. He whirled to find that she had taken the cake, and she was running down the alley with it, laughing. He immediately gave chase. "Wait, come back!!"
He didn't have to run for long; Merelan wasn't watching where she was going. Her hoof caught on a loose cobblestone and she tripped, sending her precious cake flying as her face met the street, her arms flailing comically as she fell. "Waah!" Thud.
Dami, on the other hand, was running too fast. He missed the loose stone, but his hooves weren't designed for quick stops on a street. "Merelan, are you okay?" He cried, as he misjudged his deceleration and skidded past. His legs flew out from under him and he landed hard on his rear. He didn't really care about how much is posterior hurt; he was more concerned about his 'sister'. He turned around only to find that she was fine, if a little dazed. She was pointing up and whining. "My caaaaaake!"
He had forgotten about the item that had flown out of her hands. He looked up to see it sailing in his direction. He gave chase, and again misjudged. He missed, only to have it splat on the back of his head, sending icing and strawberries flying everywhere. One strawberry stuck on his shoulder, attached via a blob of icing. Merelan seized his arm immediately, and proceeded to happily lick the icing off. "You're yummy!"
Damien blushed furiously, half-heartedly trying to free his arm from her grasp. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to rewrite her as his 'sister'...
