Yes, and sometimes, isn't it a reference to the fan as well! I know lots of die-hard fans who would gladly take the field to help out their team!

Yes! It was originally the story of a student who wasn't prepared to play, but suited up and went on the field after there were too many injuries to field eleven players. And it's come to reflect not just sport, but in all areas of life where Aggies and former Aggies step forward to help their friends who need help in a pinch.
