Mythical May Challenge

Prompt:  Fae

At the edge of the Queen’s country, there was a small hill.  The ground itself was sacred. So much so that nary a blade of grass or a speck of dirt was disturbed by the humans that trod nearby.  But while the rath lay within one Queen’s land, it was the Queen under the earth who was feared.

One evening, a young man was drawn close to the hill by the sweet music that floated on the night breeze.  There were silver bagpipes, golden harps and flutes made of air.  As he closed his eyes to listen, the fae women drifted out of the rath, taking his hand and joining him in an undulating dance.

The man, who was beloved by his family, soon lost himself. He moved with the women - the ethereal , gentle, and erotic hands and voices consuming his senses.

Languid days passed into weeks which grew into months.  The family appealed to the Queen of the Land for the return of their son.

Foolish were those who thought to demand their piece from the Queen of Faery.

The family paid the price, as no true Queen would harm another. Crops failed. Wells dried. And a fever began to spread through the house. One by one, the family left this world until only a young woman was left.

She wept at the rath for her lost brother and family.  Her tears, upon hitting the sacred ground, turned to moonflowers.  Held in one hand, the moonflowers became pearls.
