Fitness for moms and translators ~_^

Apr 20, 2011 10:38

I have always been very sporty, did rythmic gymnastics from the age of 6 to 13 (had to quit because my eyesight started going down and my training began interfering with my school). I went to the gym regularly when i became an adult, but after getting pregnant and giving birth to my son i naturally had to quit that, too. I had c-section, and although i quickly returned to my normal weight, it's easy to imagine what happens to abdominal muscles after this kind of surgery. Plus i have worked as a full-time freelance translator for 3 years now, and this in turn means that i mostly work from my kitchen sitting on my butt. Plus i have no time to go to the gym. Plus i can't lift weights as i did before because of my fragile retina.

So, i figured i had to take care first of all of the two most problematic zones: abs and butt+thighs. I had to be able to train at home, and my workouts had to be short and effective.

I bought and downloaded lots of different tutorials and tried them at home. I do not like dance aerobics, for instance, because i don't feel my muscles working and stretching, and although i do everything the instructors show, i hardly ever break a sweat. I love classical Jane Fonda-style aerobics, but the majority of these workouts are really long. So, after lots of tries and fails i have finally found several very effective workouts that are quick, easy, and lead to excellent results.

1. I absolutely love "Abs of Stone - Core of Steel - Unleash Your Perfect Midsection" by Joey Atlas. It's got three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The workout itself is pretty short, and the results are amazing! *pets her nice tight midsection*

2. I also really like the 3-volume tutorial "10 Minute Solution" by Andrea Ambandos, year of release 2004. It is a comprehensive workout complex for all your body, but you can choose only those workouts that you are interested in. Also super-effective, very clear instructions and quick results.

3. Finally, i have never really liked Pilates, but a couple of months ago i came across an excellent series of tutorials on YouTube called POP Pilates. Each workout is only 10 minutes long, and they are really very good. I particularly like Legs and Thighs Workout (link), Intense Ab Workout (link), Super Butt Workout (link) and Slimmer Inner Thighs and Runner's Calves Workout (link).

So, good luck to all sporty moms and translators, and i hope my piece of advice will be useful ^^
