Seiyuu ka-! chapter 9 summary

Will be in volume 2!

Ume has decided to remake a video for the 4 dropout's broadcast. This is cause for concern because the broadcast is only 5 days away. and starting something new this late in the game is really reckless. Ume has already prepared the script and the storyboard and tells them to stop complaining and get to work with their own rehearsals.

This new story is different than the last one. The main characters are a mean, lonely girl named Beth and 3 dwarf brothers who worry about her. Mitchi points out that the dwarf he's playing is a self-absorbed coward, Shou's is a brute, and Hime's is compassionate, yet stupid. Tsukino thinks they all match, except for Hime being an idiot, and looks over her own character. She gets out a curse doll and asks if Ume thinks she's mean like Beth is.

Everything is going rather well in their rehearsals. Hime thinks it's amazing that Ume was able to create characters so similar to them in such a short time. Ume, however, has stayed yup all night working lately and when Hime sees her in the morning she looks like she's about to die.

Hime tries to support her, but Ume grips Hime's face and, agitated, tells Hime that she needs to continue working on her dull performances rather than worry about her. Ume let's her go leaving Hime wondering why Ume decided to recreate when she was so far in her last one.

Mitchi suspects that she wants to erase her past, which causes Shou to be irritated. Hime asks Shou what he things, but he doesn't know either. All he knows is that they must do their best since Ume is putting her all into this.

As Hime and Tsukino walk home, Tsukino asks Hime if she's cheering for Ume, which Hime gladly admits she is. Tsukino can't help but give in and cheer on Ume as well. The following day, Tsukino approaches Ume and gives her a good luck charm. She wishes Ume the best.

Later, Mitchi gives Ume his e-mail address so she can send him pictures to help ease her load. He assures her that they'll do their best together.

As Hime is practicing alone, Mizuki greets her from the window, causing her to jump in surprise.

Mizuki: "The noon broadcast is the day after tomorrow?"

Hime: "Th...That's right..."

Mizuki: "Well then, let's look forward to it. That day just might be the day of fate."

As if what Mizuki says stays in her mind too long. The day arrives when the video is finished. Ume seems exhausted and ready to collapse, but the dropouts enthusiastically welcome her into the recording room. Mitchi takes the video and celebrate it's arrival with Hime in the background.

Shou speaks with Ume as the others are distracted. He's still not very good at talking to her, so he breaks out in sweat and scratches his head as he tells her that they'll start looking for her prince when this is all over. He's interrupted by Hime who assures her that her prince will definitely appear. Ume blushes from the kindness she's receiving.

Hime explains that in order to do a dub, the first thing that happens is the one producing the episode explains how the rehearsal will run, and then the segment is played through once. Ume has no producing experience so she has no advice to give except do it as they see fit. They're all extremely anxious to see their anime. As they finally watch it, a feeling of absolute gratitude and warmth overcomes them all. They all thank Ume after watching it though the first time. Ume almost starts crying and tells them that this video was made with her feelings for them.

Hime Narration: {The mean, but lonely girl, Beth, is the main character. Since she did nothing but hurt others, nobody wanted to be friends with her, so she was all alone. However, Beth believed that someday a person would appear and call them her friend. Then 3 kind hearted dwarfs appeared and were kind to Beth. But Beth unfortunately broke the precious treasure of the 3 dwarfs. Beth feared that the dwarfs would despise her, so she hid herself in a dark cellar, although...the dark cellar was frightening and she tried to leave, but she couldn't get herself out. Then the dwarfs appear and help Beth. Beth asks why they helped her and the dwarfs answer...}

Hime: "Because you're our friend..."

Then it hits Hime! She remembers Ume telling them that this video was made with her feelings to them. She analyzes the story and puts the pieces together. This "Beth" girl is actually Ume. Beth wanting friends is Ume waiting for her prince. The 3 dwarfs are the 4 dropouts. After going through a practice run of the anime, Hime leans over to the others and suggests they change one line for the final run. Hime believes that since Ume has put her feelings into this video, they must return their own feelings to her.

Near the end of their performance, Beth is desperately calling for someone to help her. Hime breaths in. It's come to the point when Beth is being helped by the dwarfs. beth asks why they helped her at all.

Hime thoughts: [If we can help her even just a little, then...]

Hime: "You're our princess."

Everyone listening is in complete awe at this rare male voice performance from Hime. Chills swirl through Ume after Hime says this new line. She can hardly believe she's hearing this. From Hime, no less! She smiles gently as she continues watching from behind the recording booth as Beth says, "Thank you."

Ume: "Thank you. My princes."

Hime wonders if their feelings reached Ume as well. Ume joins up with them after it's all done and definitely shows her thanks within her expression. Together they celebrate a job well done.

Hime narration: {That would be great if we did reach her.}

The final scene shows Beth and the dwarfs together.

As for that "day of fate", that's for next time.

This summary only took me 20 minutes to type up! A ha ha! It’s rather short compared to what I’ve been doing, neh? Oh well, nothing much happened to go into details about anyway~!

Scans for this chapter are from whitesunnie of Billwang. I would scan it myself since I have the HanaYume issue. But...*cries* I totally ripped it apart when I tried getting the chapter out!!!!!! Anyone want a ripped chapter...? The scans would suck anyway since this chapter is at the very beginning of the issue. Not only do I hate the purple color of the pages, the gutter effect is strong in the first 50 pages of HanaYume. Seriously!

Ume starts her own path as of this chapter. Anyone notice she got rid of her hair ribbon? That was the last thing remaining from her life with Riko. Neh, forget about Riko. She’s with wonderful people now. It’s hard to believe she and Hime had such a horrible start.

I wonder if Ume and Shou will end up being together afterall? They’re good as friends, they’re cute as a couple. It can go either way! I think it would be interesting if Riko came back, too. She’d give me that [missed] feeling of absolutely disliking a character. I’d like to see Shou make her go bye-bye in 20 seconds (^.^)

真的是声优吗, seiyuu ka!
